Abstract: This paper describes a novel protection scheme for a distribution network with distributed generators. The network is divided into several segments to facilitate fault isolation. Relay agents protecting the system are installed at points of interconnection between different network segments. These relay agents communicate with the neighboring agents through an asynchronous communication network. A wavelet transform coefficients based technique is proposed to identify the direction of a fault with respect to a node in the network by measuring the transient currents in the branches connected to the node. Relay agents, which use this technique to determine the fault directions with respect to their locations, then collaboratively determine the faulted zone. Simulation studies using PSCAD/EMTDC reveals that this scheme is capable of identifying and locating faults with very high accuracy even for high impedence faults.

Abstract: , isolated from a soil in Manitoba, Canada, was able to utilize diclofop-methyl, (R,S)-methyl-2-[4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenoxy]propionate, as the sole source of carbon and energy. An actively growing aerobic culture completely degraded 1.5 μg diclofop-methyl ml−1 to diclofop acid within 54 h, at 25°C. A biphasic growth pattern indicated that this organism was capable of degrading diclofop acid to 4-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)phenol and 2,4-dichlorophenol and/or phenol. The accumulation of 2,4-dichlorophenol in the growth medium, however, suggested that Sphingomonas paucimobilis was unable to utilize this compound as a source of carbon and energy.

Abstract: It is argued that the high-temperature gluon-plasma damping constants previously calculated by use of the background-field method and the Vilkovisky-DeWitt effective action do not have a physical interpretation since they are not derived from correlation functions relevant to linear-response theory. A correct application of the gauge- and parametrization-independent formalism does not affect the plasmon frequency, but yields the following modified results for the longitudinal and transverse damping constants: ..gamma../sub L/ = ..gamma../sub T/ = -(9/32..pi..)g/sup 2/NT. .AE

Abstract: Stakeholder involvement is often cited as critical to sustainable tourism development, but there is limited documentation for niche areas, such as adventure tourism. The main purpose of our research was to understand stakeholder roles in adventure tourism in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve (NDBR), Uttarakhand, India, to identify opportunities for achieving sustainable adventure tourism. Our interviews, treks and other activities revealed that organised adventure activities were still in the early development phase, with trekking being the most popular activity. The roles of various stakeholders are yet to be clearly defined, but the State Forest Department is playing a lead in the rapidly evolving network of relationships among adventure tourism stakeholders. Significant opportunity exists for a more systematic approach to adventure tourism planning that builds on the existing strengths of the various players.

Abstract: This article outlines criteria for the evaluation of the argumentum ad hominem (argument against the person, or personal attack in argument) that is traditionally a part of the curriculum in informal logic. The argument is shown to be a kind of criticism which works by shifting the burden of proof in dialogue through citing a pragmatic inconsistency in an arguer's position. Several specific cases of ad hominem argumentation which pose interesting problems in analyzing this type of criticism are studied.
