Living kidney donation does not adversely affect serum calcification propensity and markers of vascular stiffness.

TL;DR: The analysis of T50 indicates that T50 is independent from GFR in LKDs and that kidney donation does neither worsen calcification propensity nor markers of vascular stiffness at 1 year.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aldosterone levels and stroke incidence in essential hypertensive patients

TL;DR: Hypertensive patients with hALDO levels within the normal range present an increased incidence of stroke and TIA, which remained significant after adjustment for age, gender, body mass index (BMI), diabetes mellitus, serum cholesterol and current smoking.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantification of Arterial Wall Inhomogeneity Size, Distribution, and Modulus Contrast Using FSI Numerical Pulse Wave Propagation

TL;DR: Simulation studies are performed on inhomogeneous aortic walls with hard inclusions of different numbers, size and modulus in order to further characterize the effects of focal hardening on pulse wave propagation and to incorporate the wall softening and physiologically-relevant wall inhomogeneities such as those seen in calcifications or aneurysms.

Controversy in treating the oldest old with hypertension: is the hypertension in the very elderly trial the final answer?

TL;DR: As the burden of CDI in older adults continues to grow, so does the need to improve the understanding of how to prevent transmission of this serious infection, especially in frail elderly people.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fixed-combination therapies in hypertension management: focus on enalapril/lercanidipine.

TL;DR: The potential role of fixed-combination therapy in the treatment of hypertension is reviewed with a specific focus on an emerging calcium-channel blocker angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor fixed-dose combination based on a new-generation dihiidropiridinic calcium- channel blocker and the prototype angiotENSin- Converting enzyme inhibitors (enalapril).
