Pulse Wave Velocity and Cognitive Decline in Elders: The Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study

TL;DR: High arterial stiffness was modestly associated with cognitive decline and impairment in a cohort of older adults, and interventions to prevent arterIAL stiffness may be effective in delaying cognitive decline.
Journal ArticleDOI

Limitations and pitfalls of non-invasive measurement of arterial pressure wave reflections and pulse wave velocity

TL;DR: Some of the most widely applied methods to non-invasively assess pressure wave reflection (augmentation index) and arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity) in clinical vascular research are revised.

Differential expression of vascular smooth muscle-modulating microRNAs in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells: novel targets in essential hypertension.

TL;DR: The data provide important evidence that VSMC-modulating microRNAs are closely related to essential hypertension in humans and they may represent potential therapeutic targets in essential hypertension.

N-Terminal Pro-Brain Natriuretic Peptide: A Powerful Predictor of Mortality in Hypertension

TL;DR: In this large sample of hypertensive patients, plasma NT-proBNP appeared as a strong prognostic marker, independent of, and superior to, that of 2 ECG indexes of left ventricular hypertrophy, the Sokolov-Lyon index and the amplitude of the R wave in lead aVL, which should prompt a wide use of this marker for risk stratification in hypertension.

Brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity predicts the development of cardiovascular disease in a general Japanese population: the Hisayama Study.

TL;DR: It is suggested that brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity is a significant predictive factor for cardiovascular disease in the general Japanese population and that information on brachialspace wave velocity substantially improves cardiovascular risk assessment beyond that achieved by a model based on potential risk factors in general practice.
