Ab initio assisted design of quinary dual-phase high-entropy alloys with transformation-induced plasticity

TLDR
In this paper, a new class of high-entropy alloys (HEAs), quinary (five-component) dual-phase (DP) HEAs revealing transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP), designed by using a quantum mechanically based and experimentally validated approach.

High-entropy alloys

TL;DR: This Review discusses model high-entropy alloys with interesting properties, the physical mechanisms responsible for their behaviour and fruitful ways to probe and discover new materials in the vast compositional space that remains to be explored.

Mechanical properties of high-entropy alloys with emphasis on face-centered cubic alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review the principal mechanical properties of multi-principal element alloys with emphasis on the face-centered cubic systems, such as the CrCoNi-based alloys, and suggest their favorable mechanical properties and ease of processing by conventional means suggest extensive utilization in many future structural applications.

Understanding the physical metallurgy of the CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy: An atomistic simulation study

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of individual elements on solid solution hardening for the equiatomic CoCrFeMnNi HEA based on atomistic simulations is investigated and a significant number of stable vacant lattice sites with high migration energy barriers exists and is thought to cause the sluggish diffusion.

Mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a comprehensive, critical review of the mechanical behavior of high-entropy alloys and some closely related topics, including thermodynamics and kinetics.

Dynamically reinforced heterogeneous grain structure prolongs ductility in a medium-entropy alloy with gigapascal yield strength

TL;DR: A three-level heterogeneous grain structure with grain sizes spanning the nanometer to micrometer range, imparting a high yield strength well in excess of 1 GPa leads to a sustainable strain hardening rate, a record-wide hysteresis loop in load−unload−reload stress−strain curve and hence high back stresses.

Generalized Gradient Approximation Made Simple

TL;DR: A simple derivation of a simple GGA is presented, in which all parameters (other than those in LSD) are fundamental constants, and only general features of the detailed construction underlying the Perdew-Wang 1991 (PW91) GGA are invoked.

Special points for brillouin-zone integrations

TL;DR: In this article, a method for generating sets of special points in the Brillouin zone which provides an efficient means of integrating periodic functions of the wave vector is given, where the integration can be over the entire zone or over specified portions thereof.

Microstructural development in equiatomic multicomponent alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that the confusion principle does not apply, and other factors are more important in promoting glass formation of late transition metal rich multicomponent alloys.

A critical review of high entropy alloys and related concepts

TL;DR: High entropy alloys (HEAs) are barely 12 years old as discussed by the authors, and the field has stimulated new ideas and inspired the exploration of the vast composition space offered by multi-principal element alloys.
