Accurate characterization of pure silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite powders synthesized by a new precipitation route

TLDR
The results, particularly those from infrared spectroscopy, raise serious reservations about the phase purity of previously prepared and biologically evaluated SiHA powders, pellets and scaffolds in the literature.

Impact of the chemical composition of poly-substituted hydroxyapatite particles on the in vitro pro-inflammatory response of macrophages

TL;DR: Investigation of the interactions between a murine macrophage cell line and substituted hydroxyapatite particles presenting promising biological properties found TNF-α production was independent of the chemistry of the particles; however the particles elicited a significant dose-dependent pro-inflammatory response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Si-doping increases the adjuvant activity of hydroxyapatite nanorods

TL;DR: Si-doped HA nanorods with Si/P molar ratio from 0 to 0.65 were hydrothermally synthesized and evaluated as immunoadjuvants and Si-doping increases the in vitro adjuvant activity, as shown by the increase in both Th1 and Th2 cytokines secretion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Preparation of silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite coatings on Ti–30Nb–xTa alloys using cyclic electrochemical deposition method

TL;DR: In this article, the silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite (Si-HA) coatings were prepared by electrolytic deposition in electrolytes containing Ca2−+, PO43−− and SiO32− ions.

Silicon: A Possible Factor in Bone Calcification

TL;DR: Silicon, a relatively unknown trace element in nutritional research, has been uniquely localized in active calcification sites in young bone and is suggested to be associated with calcium in an early stage of calcification.

Hydrogen Bonding in Solids

G R Wilkinson
- 01 Oct 1968 -
TL;DR: The subject of hydrogen bonding plays a significant role in determining the structure of crystals and hence the subject is of much interest to physicists, chemists and molecular biologists as discussed by the authors, and as there is now considerable agreement in recognizing hydrogen bonding experimentally, it is also timely.
