Adsorption of ciprofloxacin on surface-modified carbon materials

TLDR
It was found that the nitric acid treatment of samples has a detrimental effect in adsorption capacity, whereas thermal treatments, especially at 900 °C after oxidation, enhance adsorptive performance.

Pharmaceuticals of Emerging Concern in Aquatic Systems: Chemistry, Occurrence, Effects, and Removal Methods.

TL;DR: Adsorption technologies are a low-cost alternative, easily used in developing countries where there is a dearth of advanced technologies, skilled personnel, and available capital, and adsorption appears to be the most broadly feasible pharmaceutical removal method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Pharmaceuticals as emerging contaminants and their removal from water. A review

TL;DR: The most representative pharmaceutical families found in water were described and related water pollution issues were analyzed and the performances of different water treatment systems in the removal of pharmaceuticals were summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Treatment Technologies for Emerging Contaminants in water: A review

TL;DR: An in-depth review of the state-of-the-art technologies available to remove emerging contaminants (ECs) in water was undertaken in this paper, where the authors focused on the type of EC being removed, the conditions of the process and the outcomes achieved.

Environmentally-related contaminants of high concern: Potential sources and analytical modalities for detection, quantification, and treatment.

TL;DR: The environmental and health hazards associated with a widespread distribution of micro-pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, hormones, and industrially-related synthetic dyes and dyes-containing hazardous pollutants, etc. in the water bodies are discussed.

Modification of the surface chemistry of activated carbons

TL;DR: In this paper, a deconvolution method is proposed to analyze the TPD spectra, allowing for the quantitative determination of the amount of each functional group on the surface. But the deconvolutions are not suitable for the analysis of a large number of functional groups.

Adsorption of organic molecules from aqueous solutions on carbon materials

TL;DR: In this paper, the current knowledge about the fundamental factors that control the adsorption process from aqueous phase is presented, and the carbon surface chemistry has a great influence on both electrostatic and non-electrostatic interactions.
