Regulation of metalloid uptake in plants by transporters and their solute specificity

TL;DR: In this paper , the exact role and molecular mechanism involved in the uptake and transport of different metalloids to different plant tissues is discussed, and the efforts made to engineer the metalloid transport i.e. influx/efflux of metalli that improve the uptake of beneficial metalli and reduce hazardous metalli.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of Pollution Level, Spatial Distribution, and Ecological Effects of Antimony in Soils of Mining Areas: A Review

TL;DR: The first global-scale assessment of Sb contamination in soil that was related to mining/smelting activities was conducted based on 91 articles that were published between 1989 and 2021 as discussed by the authors .
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of Antimony on Rice Growth and Its Existing Forms in Rice Under Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Environment

TL;DR: In this paper , the effect of mycorrhizal fungi inoculation on the uptake and transport of antimony (Sb) in rice was observed using pot experiments in the greenhouse, and the results showed that AMF inoculation increased the contact area between roots and metals by forming mycelium, and changed the pH and pH of the root soil, leading to more Sb entering various parts of the rice, especially at an Sb concentration of 1,200 mg/kg.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potential effects of heavy metal pollution from a cement factory near Saudi Arabia’s largest green turtle rookery

TL;DR: In this article , the authors collected sand samples from four beaches near a cement factory in Ras Baridi, north of Yanbu, which hosts the largest green turtle rookery in Saudi Arabia.

Phytoavailability, mobility, and solid-phase speciation of antimony (Sb) and lead (Pb) in brunisolic soils surrounding a Pb-Zn smelting complex, Trail, British Columbia, Canada

TL;DR: In this article, the potential availability, mobility and operationally defined speciation of Sb and Pb in contaminated soils were determined, indicating that minimal biological uptake and mobility should exist for both elements.

The composition of the continental crust

TL;DR: In this paper, a new calculation of the crustal composition is based on the proportions of upper crust (UC) to felsic lower crust (FLC) to mafic lower-crust (MLC) of about 1.6:0.4.

Distribution of the Elements in Some Major Units of the Earth's Crust

TL;DR: A table of abundances of the elements in the various major units of the Earth's lithic crust with a documentation of the sources and a discussion of the choice of units and data is presented in this article.

Quantitative assessment of worldwide contamination of air, water and soils by trace metals

TL;DR: Calculated loading rates of trace metals into the three environmental compartments demonstrate that human activities now have major impacts on the global and regional cycles of most of the trace elements.

Handbook on the toxicology of metals

TL;DR: Handbook of the Toxicology of Metals as discussed by the authors is the standard reference work for physicians, toxicologists and engineers in the field of environmental and occupational health, which is a comprehensive review of the effects on biological systems from metallic elements and compounds.

Abundance of chemical elements in the continental crust: a new table

TL;DR: In this article, a table of element abundances in the continental crust, calculated on the basis of a 1:1 mixture of granite and basalt abundances, is presented.
