Variation and distribution of metals and metalloids in soil/ash mixtures from Agbogbloshie e-waste recycling site in Accra, Ghana
Takaaki Itai,Masanari Otsuka,Kwadwo Ansong Asante,Kwadwo Ansong Asante,Mamoru Muto,Yaw Opoku-Ankomah,O.D. Ansa-Asare,Shinsuke Tanabe +7 more
TL;DR: This study showed that along with common metals, rare metal(loid)s are also enriched in the e-waste burning site, and suggests that risk assessment considering exposure to multiple metal( loids)s should be addressed in studies of e-Waste recycling sites.
Journal ArticleDOI
Investigation on chemical species of arsenic, selenium and antimony in fly ash from coal fuel thermal power stations
TL;DR: Investigations of the existing chemical forms and the concentrations of arsenic (As), selenium (Se) and antimony (Sb) in samples of fly ash obtained from six coal-fired power stations in various countries found that the ratio of Se to Se in acidic fly ashes is higher than in alkaline fly ash samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecology of testate amoebae in peatlands of central China and development of a transfer function for paleohydrological reconstruction
Yangmin Qin,Edward A. D. Mitchell,Mariusz Lamentowicz,Richard J. Payne,Enrique Lara,Yansheng Gu,Xianyu Huang,Hongmei Wang +7 more
TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors studied the ecology of testate amoebae in peatlands from central China in relation to hydrology, pH and metal concentrations, and they found that the community structure was correlated with depth to water table (DWT) and the hydrological preferences of species generally matched those of previous studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Migration of antimony from polyethylene terephthalate used in mineral water bottles.
TL;DR: The influence of storage time and temperature on Sb migration from PET bottles into mineral water was studied in short-term tests lasting up to 15 days and long-term studieslasting up to 220 days.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abiotic reduction of antimony(V) by green rust (Fe4(II)Fe2(III)(OH)12SO4 · 3H2O)
TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction between Sb(V) and green rust using XAFS and HPLC-ICP-MS was investigated for the first time, and it was shown that green rust has high affinity for SbV.

The composition of the continental crust
TL;DR: In this paper, a new calculation of the crustal composition is based on the proportions of upper crust (UC) to felsic lower crust (FLC) to mafic lower-crust (MLC) of about 1.6:0.4.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution of the Elements in Some Major Units of the Earth's Crust
Karl K. Turekian,K. H. Wedepohl +1 more
TL;DR: A table of abundances of the elements in the various major units of the Earth's lithic crust with a documentation of the sources and a discussion of the choice of units and data is presented in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative assessment of worldwide contamination of air, water and soils by trace metals
Jerome O. Nriagu,Jozef M. Pacyna +1 more
TL;DR: Calculated loading rates of trace metals into the three environmental compartments demonstrate that human activities now have major impacts on the global and regional cycles of most of the trace elements.
Book
Handbook on the toxicology of metals
TL;DR: Handbook of the Toxicology of Metals as discussed by the authors is the standard reference work for physicians, toxicologists and engineers in the field of environmental and occupational health, which is a comprehensive review of the effects on biological systems from metallic elements and compounds.
Journal ArticleDOI
Abundance of chemical elements in the continental crust: a new table
TL;DR: In this article, a table of element abundances in the continental crust, calculated on the basis of a 1:1 mixture of granite and basalt abundances, is presented.
