TLDR
In this article, a detailed discussion of the scattering of fast atoms and ions from solid surfaces under a grazing angle of incidence is presented Theoretical and experimental results are used to demonstrate that collisions employing this scattering geometry provide interesting new phenomena and insights into atom-surface interactions.

Theory of surface plasmons and surface-plasmon polaritons

TL;DR: In this article, a theoretical description of the many-body dynamical electronic response of solids is presented, which underlines the existence of various collective electronic excitations at metal surfaces.

Optical excitations in electron microscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, a quantum-mechanical description of the interaction between the electrons and the sample is discussed, followed by a powerful classical dielectric approach that can be in practice applied to more complex systems.

Quantum Plasmonics: Nonlinear Effects in the Field Enhancement of a Plasmonic Nanoparticle Dimer

TL;DR: It is shown that both classical as well as linear quantum mechanical descriptions of the system fail even for moderate incident light intensities and the coupling between the two nanoparticles and the field enhancement is reduced as compared to linear theory.

A classical treatment of optical tunneling in plasmonic gaps: extending the quantum corrected model to practical situations

TL;DR: A classical effective model, so called Quantum Corrected Model (QCM), that has been introduced to correctly describe the main features of optical transport in plasmonic nanogaps is considered and its implementation is extended to include nonlocal effects and address practical situations involving different materials and temperatures of operation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantum scattering of fast atoms and molecules on surfaces.

TL;DR: It is shown here that well-defined diffraction patterns can be observed indicating that, for grazing scattering, the pertinent wavelength is that associated with the slow motion perpendicular to the surface.
