Development and validation of QDiabetes-2018 risk prediction algorithm to estimate future risk of type 2 diabetes: cohort study
TL;DR: Three updated QDiabetes risk models to quantify the absolute risk of type 2 diabetes were developed and validated: model A does not require a blood test and can be used to identify patients for fasting blood glucose (model B) or HBA1c (model C) testing, and model B had the best performance for predicting 10 year risk ofType 2 diabetes to identify those who need interventions and more intensive follow-up, improving on current approaches.

Association of Long-term Exposure to Ambient Air Pollutants With Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease in China
Bo-Yi Yang,Yuming Guo,Iana Markevych,Zhengmin Min Qian,Michael S. Bloom,Joachim Heinrich,Shyamali C. Dharmage,Craig A. Rolling,Savannah S. Jordan,Mika Komppula,A. Leskinen,Gayan Bowatte,Shanshan Li,Gongbo Chen,Kang Kang Liu,Xiao Wen Zeng,Li-Wen Hu,Guang-Hui Dong +17 more
TL;DR: The strongest associations for exposure to air pollution were detected for individuals with hyperbetalipoproteinemia and the weakest associations for those with overweight or obesity in this population-based cross-sectional study.

The emerging role of redox-sensitive Nrf2-Keap1 pathway in diabetes.
Elango Bhakkiyalakshmi,Dornadula Sireesh,P. Rajaguru,Ramasamy Paulmurugan,Kunka Mohanram Ramkumar +4 more
TL;DR: The molecular mechanism behind Nrf2 activation and the impact of NRF2 activators in diabetes and its complications is summarized and identification of small molecule activators of Nrf1/Keap1 pathway remains significant to enhance cellular defense to overcome the burden of oxidative stress related disturbances.

TL;DR: The epidemiological evidence, potential pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic implications of the association between DM and colorectal cancer, and the biological plausibility of a cause-and-effect relationship through characterization of the molecular pathways involved are reviewed.

Reduction in the incidence of type 2 diabetes with lifestyle intervention or metformin.
William C. Knowler,Elizabeth Barrett-Connor,Sarah E. Fowler,Richard F. Hamman,John M. Lachin,Elizabeth A. Walker,David M. Nathan +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared a lifestyle intervention with metformin to prevent or delay the development of Type 2 diabetes in nondiabetic individuals. And they found that the lifestyle intervention was significantly more effective than the medication.

TL;DR: The Brazilian study provided evidence that adverse perinatal outcomes are associated with levels of maternal glycemia below those diagnostic of GDM by American Diabetes Association or World Health Organization criteria, however, the results were potentially confounded by the treatment of G DM.
