Abstract
The Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (or SIFT) algorithm is a highly robust method to extract and consequently match distinctive invariant features from images. These features can then be used to reliably match objects in diering images. The algorithm was rst proposed by Lowe [12] and further developed to increase performance resulting in the classic paper [13] that served as foundation for SIFT which has played an important role in robotic and machine vision in the past decade.

R2D2: Repeatable and Reliable Detector and Descriptor.

TL;DR: This work argues that salient regions are not necessarily discriminative, and therefore can harm the performance of the description, and proposes to jointly learn keypoint detection and description together with a predictor of the local descriptor discriminativeness.

Parallax-Tolerant Image Stitching

TL;DR: This paper presents a local stitching method to handle parallax based on the observation that input images do not need to be perfectly aligned over the whole overlapping region for stitching, and develops a seam finding method that estimates a plausible seam from only roughly aligned images by considering both geometric alignment and image content.

Joint Feature Selection and Subspace Learning for Cross-Modal Retrieval

TL;DR: An iterative algorithm is presented to solve the proposed joint learning problem, along with its convergence analysis, and Experimental results on cross-modal retrieval tasks demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art subspace approaches.

Viewpoint Invariant Texture Description Using Fractal Analysis

TL;DR: The multifractal spectrum (MFS) is introduced, a new texture signature that is invariant under the bi-Lipschitz map, which includes view-point changes and non-rigid deformations of the texture surface, as well as local affine illumination changes.

Apero, an open source bundle adjusment software for automatic calibration and orientation of set of images

TL;DR: This paper focuses on the presentation of APERO the orientation software, which has a large library of parametric model of distortion allowing a precise modelization of all the kind of pinhole camera the authors know, including several model of fish-eye.

Distinctive Image Features from Scale-Invariant Keypoints

TL;DR: This paper presents a method for extracting distinctive invariant features from images that can be used to perform reliable matching between different views of an object or scene and can robustly identify objects among clutter and occlusion while achieving near real-time performance.

Object recognition from local scale-invariant features

TL;DR: Experimental results show that robust object recognition can be achieved in cluttered partially occluded images with a computation time of under 2 seconds.

A Combined Corner and Edge Detector

TL;DR: The problem the authors are addressing in Alvey Project MMI149 is that of using computer vision to understand the unconstrained 3D world, in which the viewed scenes will in general contain too wide a diversity of objects for topdown recognition techniques to work.

A performance evaluation of local descriptors

TL;DR: It is observed that the ranking of the descriptors is mostly independent of the interest region detector and that the SIFT-based descriptors perform best and Moments and steerable filters show the best performance among the low dimensional descriptors.

Robust wide-baseline stereo from maximally stable extremal regions

TL;DR: The high utility of MSERs, multiple measurement regions and the robust metric is demonstrated in wide-baseline experiments on image pairs from both indoor and outdoor scenes.
