TLDR
In this article, it was shown that despite the van der Waals' forces being capable of increasing the elastic contact area between the ball and the plane, the force that is required to overcome the molecular forces arising when the contact is broken does not increase thereby.

A mechanistic model for the thermal conductivity of planetary regolith: 1. The effects of particle shape, composition, cohesion, and compression at depth

TL;DR: In this paper, a new analytical and mechanistic model for calculating the effective thermal conductivity (keff) of planetary regolith, or any porous granular medium consisting of solid particles and gas (or vacuum).

Dynamic force microscopy simulator (dForce): A tool for planning and understanding tapping and bimodal AFM experiments.

TL;DR: The simulator presents the cantilever–tip dynamics for two dynamic AFM methods, tapping mode AFM and bimodal AFM, and compared two numerical integration methods to select the one that offers optimal accuracy and speed.

Bumpy Particle Adhesion and Removal in Turbulent Flows Including Electrostatic and Capillary Forces

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of electrostatic and capillary forces on bumpy particle adhesion and removal in turbulent flows is studied and the critical shear velocities for detaching particles of different sizes under different conditions are evaluated.

Mixtures of hyaluronic acid and liposomes for drug delivery: Phase behavior, microstructure and mobility of liposomes.

TL;DR: The microstructure and the phase behavior of mixtures of hyaluronic acid and liposomal gels and their impact on the vesicle mobility are evaluated and PEGylated liposomes display the highest mobility at high HA concentration both macro- and microscopically.

Discrete element modelling of iron ore pellets to include the effects of moisture and fines

TL;DR: Morrissey et al. as mentioned in this paper presented a mesoscopic adhesive contact model that accounts for contact plasticity and stress history dependency in the bulk solid, the Edinburgh Elasto-Plastic Adhesion (EEPA) mode, has been presented and mathematically verified.

The London—van der Waals attraction between spherical particles

TL;DR: In this article, the London-v.d. interaction between two spherical particles is computed as a function of the diameters and the distance separating them, and a table is calculated which enables numerical application of the formulae derived.

LXXIX. The cohesive force between solid surfaces and the surface energy of solids

TL;DR: In this paper, an expression for the cohesive force between two unequal spheres in geometrical contact is derived and the surface energy of the solid may be computed from the constant in this expression.
