TLDR
In this article, it was shown that despite the van der Waals' forces being capable of increasing the elastic contact area between the ball and the plane, the force that is required to overcome the molecular forces arising when the contact is broken does not increase thereby.

Heterogeneous particle deaggregation and its implication for therapeutic aerosol performance

TL;DR: A new method, PADE, describing dry powder formulation performance in a shear stress range has been developed which may allow a fundamental understanding of interparticulate and surface forces and supports rational design of dry powder formulations.

Friction force microscopy investigation of nanostructured carbon films

TL;DR: In this article, the Hertzian-plus-offset model was used to take into account the frictional behavior of carbon-based films and a strong dependence of adhesive forces on the specific surface location was observed.

A stochastic description on the traction-separation law of an interface with non-covalent bonding

TL;DR: In this paper, a stochastic description about the mechanical response of an interface composed of non-covalent bonds is formulated, where the evolution of bonding probability in response to deformation plays the central role in determining their traction-separation behavior.

Mechanisms for nano particle removal in brush scrubber cleaning

TL;DR: In this paper, a model describing the nano particle removal behavior in brush scrubber cleaning is presented based on experiment results and theoretical analysis, and the forces on the particles in different situations are analyzed and discussed.

Qualitative study of nanocluster positioning process: Planar molecular dynamics simulations

TL;DR: 2D molecular dynamics simulations have been used to investigate the behavior of the ultra-fine metallic nanoclusters system which is made from different transition metals and the effects of material type, tip form and manipulation strategy have been investigated by planar molecular dynamics.

The London—van der Waals attraction between spherical particles

TL;DR: In this article, the London-v.d. interaction between two spherical particles is computed as a function of the diameters and the distance separating them, and a table is calculated which enables numerical application of the formulae derived.

LXXIX. The cohesive force between solid surfaces and the surface energy of solids

TL;DR: In this paper, an expression for the cohesive force between two unequal spheres in geometrical contact is derived and the surface energy of the solid may be computed from the constant in this expression.
