Enzymic determination of uracil nucleotides in tissues.
TLDR
An enzymic assay for the sequential determination of UDP-glucose, UDP-galactose, UTP, UDP, and 5′-UMP in tissues is described, which uses commercially available enzymes and is highly reproducible, with standard deviations of less than 2%.About:

Stimulation of germination of dormant oat (Avena sativa L.) seeds by ethanol and other alcohols
TL;DR: The results obtained seem to demonstrate that the stimulatory action of ethanol on germination of dormant oat caryopses requires its metabolism through ADH and involves an activation of glycolysis and the Krebs cycle.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of diabetes on the sugar nucleotides in several tissues of the rat.
TL;DR: The finding of elevated UDP-glucose and UDP-galactose concentrations in diabetic kidney is considered to be potentially of great importance to the increased synthesis of basement membrane collagen by this tissue.

Control of Pyrimidine Biosynthesis in the Perfused Liver
TL;DR: The site of feedback inhibition of the biosynthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides de novo was investigated in the isolated perfused rat liver and the lack of labeling of urea from exogenous carbamoyl phosphate does not indicate a free exchange of extra- and intramitochondrial carbamoysl phosphate.

Ca2+ ‐ and Nitric Oxide‐Dependent Stimulation of Cyclic GMP Synthesis in Neuronal Cell Line Induced by P2‐Purinergic/Pyrimidinergic Receptor
TL;DR: The mechanism by which cyclic GMP synthesis is activated through a nucleotide receptor was studied in mouse neuroblastoma × rat glioma hybrid cells and indicates that ATP/UTP via a P2‐receptor causes formation of nitric oxide, which activates guanylate cyclase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of induction of rat liver tyrosine aminotransferase by D-galactosamine.
TL;DR: Unlike actinomycin D, injection of galactosamine at various times after injection of dexamethasone does not result in a superinduction of tyrosine aminotransferase, and there is little or no relationship between levels of galactsamine metabolites in the liver and inhibition of enzyme induction.

Experimental hepatitis induced by d-galactosamine
TL;DR: Repeated intraperitoneal injections of d-galactosamine produce within 24–48 hours in rat livers alterations that closely resemble human viral hepatitis, indicating a high specificity of d -galactoamine.

The enzymatic transformation of uridine diphosphate glucose into a galactose derivative
TL;DR: It is concluded that the compound found with treatment of UDPG with an enzyme of S. fragilis is uridine diphosphate galactose, and the bearing of this finding on the mechanism of action of UDPG is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Isolation of the coenzyme of the galactose phosphate-glucose phosphate transformation.
TL;DR: In the initial studies (5) it was found that a thermostable factor was required in the over-all Reactions II and III, which led eventually to the discovery and isolation of glucose diphosphate, which acts as a coenzyme in Reaction III.
