TLDR
This paper found that participants are significantly more likely to choose social welfare-maximizing actions when matched with an ingroup member when compared to when they are matched with a non-group identity.
Abstract
We present a laboratory experiment that measures the effects of induced group identity on social preferences. We find that when participants are matched with an ingroup member, they show a 47 percent increase in charity concerns and a 93 percent decrease in envy. Likewise, participants are 19 percent more likely to reward an ingroup match for good behavior, but 13 percent less likely to punish an ingroup match for misbehavior. Furthermore, participants are significantly more likely to choose social-welfare-maximizing actions when matched with an ingroup member. All results are consistent with the hypothesis that participants are more altruistic toward an ingroup match. (

Intergroup revenge: a laboratory experiment on the causes

TL;DR: This paper found that subjects who were harmed by a partner's uncooperative action reacted by harming other members of the partner's group and that group reciprocity was only observed when one group was seen as unfairly advantaged.

Deception and political participation: theory and laboratory evidence

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compare between political campaigns with truthful advertising and campaigns with deceptive advertising and find that voters are substantially more likely to elect a low-quality candidate when there is a small chance of deceptive advertising.

Endowments, Perceived Similarity and Dictator Giving

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore how the perception of an endowment source influences amounts sent in a dictator game and find perceived similarity to the endowment provider to be negatively correlated with dictator offers.

Social preferences, accountability, and wage bargaining

TL;DR: The authors experimentally test preferences for employment in a collective wage bargaining situation with heterogeneous workers and show that highly productive workers do not take employment of low productive workers into account when making wage proposals, regardless of whether only union members determine the wage or all workers.

Hate Trumps Love: The Impact of Political Polarization on Social Preferences

TL;DR: Chen et al. as mentioned in this paper examined various behavioral-, belief-, and norm-based layers of non-strategic decision making that are plausibly affected by political polarization and found strong heterogeneous effects: ingroup-love occurs in the perceptional domain (how close one feels toward others), whereas outgroup-hate occurred in the behavioral domain(how one helps/harms/cooperates with others).

Controlling the false discovery rate: a practical and powerful approach to multiple testing

TL;DR: In this paper, a different approach to problems of multiple significance testing is presented, which calls for controlling the expected proportion of falsely rejected hypotheses -the false discovery rate, which is equivalent to the FWER when all hypotheses are true but is smaller otherwise.

TL;DR: This paper showed that if some people care about equity, the puzzles can be resolved and that the economic environment determines whether the fair types or the selesh types dominate equilibrium behavior in cooperative games.
