A survey of existing hypertext systems, their applications, and their design is both an introduction to the world of hypertext and a survey of some of the most important design issues that go into fashioning a hypertext environment.
Abstract
This article is a survey of existing hypertext systems, their applications, and their design. It is both an introduction to the world of hypertext and, at a deeper cut, a survey of some of the most important design issues that go into fashioning a hypertext environment. The concept of hypertext is quite simple: Windows on the screen are associated with objects in a database, and links are provided between these objects, both graphically (as labelled tokens) and in the database (as pointers). But this simple idea is creating much excitement. Several universities have created laboratories for research on hypertext, many articles have been written about the concept just within the last year, and the Smithsonian Institute has created a demonstration laboratory to develop and display hypertext technologies.

Formal models for the description of timed behaviors of multimedia and hypermedia distributed systems

TL;DR: It will be shown that both models, starting from a different formal basis, are of interest as they possess complementary advantages and can then be used at different stages of the system life cycle.

Age Differences in the Performance of Hypertext Perusal

TL;DR: The data showed that both age and text topologies were significant sources of variability in hypertext browsing and navigation and Implications for the design of hypertext systems that accommodate the age effects are discussed.

How to support learning from multiple hypertext sources.

TL;DR: The results show that the task is the most important factor for successful learning from multiple hypertexts and the construction of a documents model in particular.

Modeling timed user-interactions in multimedia documents

TL;DR: The hyperstory model of a multimedia document is considered, where a document is structured hierarchically in three dimensions: time, space and asynchrony, and provides a layered approach in structuring multimedia documents, thus reducing the complexities of large systems.
