A survey of existing hypertext systems, their applications, and their design is both an introduction to the world of hypertext and a survey of some of the most important design issues that go into fashioning a hypertext environment.Abstract:
This article is a survey of existing hypertext systems, their applications, and their design. It is both an introduction to the world of hypertext and, at a deeper cut, a survey of some of the most important design issues that go into fashioning a hypertext environment. The concept of hypertext is quite simple: Windows on the screen are associated with objects in a database, and links are provided between these objects, both graphically (as labelled tokens) and in the database (as pointers). But this simple idea is creating much excitement. Several universities have created laboratories for research on hypertext, many articles have been written about the concept just within the last year, and the Smithsonian Institute has created a demonstration laboratory to develop and display hypertext technologies.read more

Knowledge management as a decision support method: a diagnostic workup strategy application
Robert A. Greenes,David B. Tarabar,M. Krauss,G. Anderson,W. J. Wolnik,L. Cope,Eric T. Slosser,William R. Hersh +7 more
TL;DR: The potential of a computer-based approach called "knowledge management" to aid in clinical problem solving and education and the need for a "critical mass" of knowledge before such an approach will be widely utilized is explored.

Concept Mapping in a Financial Accounting Theory Course
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the usefulness of concept mapping within an accounting education context and show how an accounting-based concept map can be constructed by students and educators to provide a visual, conceptually transparent graphical representation of an individual's understanding of a particular knowledge domain.

An overview of the Tecton proof system
Deepak Kapur,David R. Musser +1 more
TL;DR: The Tecton proof system is an experimental tool for constructing proofs of first-order logic formulas and of program specifications expressed using formulas in Hoare's axiomatic formalism, designed to make interactive proof construction easier than with previous tools.

Development of a Cognitive Model for Navigating on the Web
TL;DR: A cognitive model of human performance in Web-assisted tasks is proposed and it is shown that CoLiDeS+ performs better in modeling user behavior than its previous version (Co LiDeS) and the navigation support generated from its simulations has a positive impact on user behavior and task outcomes.
Legal Knowledge Based Systems
H.J. van den Herik,Marie-Francine Moens,J. Bing,B. van Buggenhout,John Zeleznikow,C. Gruetters +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose an architecture for legal agents: autonomous legal knowledge-based systems with facilities to communicate their intentions to other legal agents, enabling the spanning of legal tasks over different co-operating legal agents.
