TLDR
Using a subtraction cloning approach, a set of cDNA clones from mouse neural precursor cells whose respective mRNA levels are down-regulated during the development of mouse brain are isolated and indicate that these genes may play important roles during the embryonic development and differentiation of central nervous system.

Caspases: the executioners of apoptosis

TL;DR: The importance of caspase prodomains in the regulation of apoptosis is further highlighted by the recognition of adapter molecules, such as RAIDD [receptor-interacting protein (RIP)-associated ICH-1/CED-3-homologous protein with a death domain]/CRADD (caspase and RIP adapter with death domain), which binds to the prodomain of cspase-2 and recruits it to the signalling complex.

Mechanisms and genes of cellular suicide

TL;DR: Genetic studies in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and in the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster have led to the isolation of genes that are specifically required for the induction of programmed cell death.

The C. elegans cell death gene ced-3 encodes a protein similar to mammalian interleukin-1β-converting enzyme

TL;DR: It is proposed that the CED-3 protein acts as a cysteine protease in the initiation of programmed cell death in C. elegans and that cysteINE proteases also function in programmed cell deaths in mammals.

The importance of being proline: the interaction of proline-rich motifs in signaling proteins with their cognate domains

TL;DR: This review highlights the analysis of those protein‐protein interactions that involve proline residues, the biochemistry of proline, and current drug discovery efforts based on proline peptidomimetics.

A family of proteins structurally and functionally related to the E6-AP ubiquitin-protein ligase.

TL;DR: Data strongly suggest that the rat 100-kDa protein and RSP5, as well as the other E6-AP-related proteins, belong to a class of functionally related E3 ubiquitin-protein ligases, defined by a domain homologous to the E 6-AP carboxyl terminus (hect domain).

CNS stem cells express a new class of intermediate filament protein.

TL;DR: The predicted amino acid sequence of the nestin gene product shows that nestin defines a distinct sixth class of intermediate filament protein, extending a model in which transitions in intermediate filament gene expression reflect major steps in the pathway of neural differentiation.

Sizing and mapping of early adenovirus mRNAs by gel electrophoresis of S1 endonuclease-digested hybrids

TL;DR: A simple and sensitive method for detecting, sizing and mapping RNA transcripts from viral or cloned DNAs has been developed and used to examine the cytoplasmic transcripts produced during the early phase of adenovirus 2 (Ad2) infection of HeLa cells.

The molecular genetics of embryonic pattern formation in Drosophila

TL;DR: Analysis of the genes that control the early events of Drosophila embryogenesis is providing details of the molecular processes underlying the positional specification of cells.

Expression of a large family of POU-domain regulatory genes in mammalian brain development.

TL;DR: The identification of multiple new members of a large family of POU-domain genes expressed in adult brain are reported, and it is documented that all the known mammalian Pou- domain genes, including Pit-1 and Oct-2, are expressed widely in the developing nervous system.

Murine developmental control genes.

TL;DR: Gene families that have been identified on the basis of their homology to motifs within Drosophila control genes or human transcription factor genes, namely homeobox, paired-box (Pax), and POU genes, can be compared with respect to gene organization, structure, and expression patterns.
