Identification of Chondromodulin I as a Novel Endothelial Cell Growth Inhibitor PURIFICATION AND ITS LOCALIZATION IN THE AVASCULAR ZONE OF EPIPHYSEAL CARTILAGE

TLDR
P purification of an endothelial cell growth inhibitor from a guanidine extract of bovine epiphyseal cartilage suggests a regulatory role of ChM-I in vascular invasion during endochondral bone formation.

Osteoarthritis, angiogenesis and inflammation

TL;DR: Evidence that angiogenesis and inflammation play an important role in the pathophysiology of OA is summarized and possible directions for future research into therapeutics that could effectively treat this disease are summarized.

Maturational disturbance of chondrocytes in Cbfa1-deficient mice.

TL;DR: It is shown that Cbfa1 is an important factor for chondrocyte differentiation, and the expression of PTH/PTHrP receptor, Indian hedgehog, type X collagen, and BMP6 was not detected in humerus and femur, indicating that chondrodynamic differentiation was blocked before prehypertrophic chondROcytes.

Systemic and Local Regulation of the Growth Plate

TL;DR: An update on the present perception of growth plate function and the regulation of chondrocyte proliferation and differentiation by systemic and local regulators of which most are now related to human growth disorders is presented.

Continuous expression of Cbfa1 in nonhypertrophic chondrocytes uncovers its ability to induce hypertrophic chondrocyte differentiation and partially rescues Cbfa1-deficient mice

TL;DR: Results identify Cbfa1 as a hypertrophic chondrocyte differentiation factor and provide a genetic argument for a common regulation of osteoblast and chONDrocytes differentiation mediated by CbFA1.

Scleraxis positively regulates the expression of tenomodulin, a differentiation marker of tenocytes

TL;DR: It is reported that TeM expression is closely associated with the appearance of tenocytes during chick development and is positively regulated by Scleraxis (Scx), and that Scx positively regulates TeMexpression in a tendon cell lineage-dependent manner.

Endostatin: an endogenous inhibitor of angiogenesis and tumor growth.

TL;DR: This work has identified endostatin, an angiogenesis inhibitor produced by hemangioendothelioma, a 20 kDa C-terminal fragment of collagen XVIII that specifically inhibits endothelial proliferation and potently inhibitsAngiogenesis and tumor growth.

SR alpha promoter: an efficient and versatile mammalian cDNA expression system composed of the simian virus 40 early promoter and the R-U5 segment of human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 long terminal repeat.

TL;DR: The SR alpha expression system was 1 or 2 orders of magnitude more active than the SV40 early promoter in a wide variety of cell types, including fibroblasts and lymphoid cells, and was capable of promoting a high level of expression of various lymphokine cDNAs.

Inhibition of angiogenesis by recombinant human platelet factor-4 and related peptides.

TL;DR: Recombinant human platelet factor-4 (rhPF4), purified from Escherichia coli, inhibited blood vessel proliferation in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane in a dose-dependent manner and suggested that the angiostatic effect was due to specific inhibition of growth factor-stimulated endothelial cell proliferation.
