Ions in water: characterizing the forces that control chemical processes and biological structure.

TLDR
Two different techniques indicate that the interaction of water with anions is by an approximately linear hydrogen bond, suggesting that the dominant forces on ions in water are short range forces of a chemical nature.

Cation-specific interactions of protein surface charges in dilute aqueous salt solutions: a combined study using dielectric relaxation spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy

TL;DR: The combined dielectric relaxation and Raman spectroscopic study indicates that ion-glycine interactions are weak and mediated by the solvent.

Thermodynamics of Ionized Monolayers: Surface Manometry on Very Low Density Spread Monolayers of Sodium Octadecyl Sulfate at the Air/Water Interface and Analysis of Ionic Double Layer Contributions to the Isotherms

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the basic Gouy model fails to account for the contribution of the ionic double layer to the surface pressure in the low density region at low NaCl concentrations.

NMR spectroscopic studies of a TAT-derived model peptide in imidazolium-based ILs: influence on chemical shifts and the cis/trans equilibrium state.

TL;DR: The IL cations appear to be of exceptional importance for inducing an alteration of the native cis/trans equilibrium state of Xaa-Pro bonds in favour of the trans-isomers.

Molecular thermodynamics of soft self-assembling structures for engineering applications

TL;DR: A number of thermodynamic and structural models have been developed for different types of soft mesoscale structures formed by aggregating chain-like amphiphilic molecules as discussed by the authors, such as nonionic and ionic copolymer gels swelling in selective solvents.

The Hofmeister effect and the behaviour of water at interfaces.

TL;DR: The first general, detailed qualitative molecular mechanism for the origins of ion-specific (Hofmeister) effects on the surface potential difference at an air-water interface is proposed; this mechanism suggests a simple model for the behaviour of water at all interfaces, regardless of whether the non-aqueous component is neutral or charged, polar or non-polar.
