Discovery of two classes of potent glycomimetic inhibitors of Pseudomonas aeruginosa LecB with distinct binding modes
Dirk Hauck,Ines Joachim,Benjamin Frommeyer,Annabelle Varrot,Bodo Philipp,Heiko M. Möller,Anne Imberty,Thomas E. Exner,Alexander Titz +8 more
TL;DR: Cinnamide and sulfonamide derivatives are inhibitors of bacterial adhesion with up to a 20-fold increase in affinity to LecB compared to the natural ligand methyl mannoside and capped structures as reported here may offer a beneficial selectivity profile for the pathogenic lectin.

Development and optimization of a competitive binding assay for the galactophilic low affinity lectin LecA from Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Ines Joachim,Sebastian Rikker,Dirk Hauck,Daniela Ponader,Sophia Boden,Roman Sommer,Laura Hartmann,Alexander Titz +7 more
TL;DR: A fluorescence polarization-based competitive binding assay with LecA for application in screening of potential inhibitors of Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa is developed and optimization of the assay was optimized to reduce protein consumption in the assay.

Revisit of the phenol O-glycosylation with glycosyl imidates, BF3·OEt2 is a better catalyst than TMSOTf
TL;DR: BF(3)·OEt(2) is an effective catalyst to promote the conversion of 1, 2-orthoesters into the corresponding 1,2-trans-O-glycosides, which are transformed into the final products at a higher temperature.

Facile synthesis of three bidesmosidic oleanolic acid saponins with strong inhibitory activity on pancreatic lipase.
TL;DR: The first synthesis of scabiosaponins E, F, and G, three new oleanolic acid saponins with strong inhibitory activity on pancreatic lipase isolated from the Chinese traditional medicinal herb Scabiosa tschiliensis, was efficiently achieved in an one-pot strategy under the combined use of glycosyl trichloroacetimidates and p-toluene 1-thioglycosides (STol) as donors.

Biological roles of oligosaccharides: all of the theories are correct
TL;DR: The only common features of the varied functions of oligosaccharides are that they either mediate ‘specific recognition’ events or that they provide ‘modulation’ of biological processes.

Rapid chromatographic technique for preparative separations with moderate resolution
Abstract: (11) Potassium ferricyanide has previously been used to convert w'c-1,2-dicarboxylate groups to double bonds. See, for example, L. F. Fieser and M. J. Haddadln, J. Am. Chem. Soc., 86, 2392 (1964). The oxidative dldecarboxylation of 1,2-dlcarboxyllc acids is, of course, a well-known process. See Inter alia (a) C. A. Grob, M. Ohta, and A. Weiss, Helv. Chim. Acta, 41, 1911 (1958); and (b) E. N. Cain, R. Vukov, and S. Masamune, J. Chem. Soc. D, 98 (1969).
