MEGA2 : Molecular evolutionary genetics analysis software

TLDR
MEGA2 vastly extends the capabilities of MEGA version 1 by facilitating analyses of large datasets, enabling creation and analyses of groups of sequences, and expanding the repertoire of statistical methods for molecular evolutionary studies.
Abstract
Summary: We have developed a new software package, Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis version 2 (MEGA2), for exploring and analyzing aligned DNA or protein sequences from an evolutionary perspective. MEGA2 vastly extends the capabilities of MEGA version 1 by: (1) facilitating analyses of large datasets; (2) enabling creation and analyses of groups of sequences; (3) enabling specification of domains and genes; (4) expanding the repertoire of statistical methods for molecular evolutionary studies; and (5) adding new modules for visual representation of input data and output results on the Microsoft Windows platform. Entomologic and Serologic Evidence of Zoonotic Transmission of Babesia microti, Eastern Switzerland

TL;DR: These observations constitute the first report demonstrating B. microti in a human-biting vector, associated with evidence of human exposure to this agent in a European site.

Diversity and dynamics of microcystin―Producing cyanobacteria in China's third largest lake, Lake Taihu

TL;DR: The results suggested that the highest mcy gene concentration lagging behind the highest MC concentration, and the potential MC-producing cyanobacterial community shift lagged behind the development of blooms.

An integrated molecular and morphological study of the subfamily Suaedoideae Ulbr. (Chenopodiaceae)

TL;DR: The molecular results confirm that C4 photosynthesis has evolved independently four times in the subfamily Suaedoideae, and a reassessment of morphological and anatomical characters on the background of the molecular trees resulted in the recognition of pistil morphology and leaf type as key characters.

An Analysis of Signatures of Selective Sweeps in Natural Populations of the House Mouse

TL;DR: The data suggest that there are slightly more signs of selective sweeps than would have been expected by chance alone in each of the populations and also highlights some of the statistical challenges faced in genome scans for detecting selection.

Evidence of Unique Genotypes of Beak and Feather Disease Virus in Southern Africa

TL;DR: BFDVs in southern Africa have, however, diverged substantially from viruses found in other parts of the world, as the average distance between the southern African isolates and BFDV isolates from Australia ranged from 8.3 to 10.8%.

Phylogenetic test of the molecular clock and linearized trees.

TL;DR: To estimate approximate divergence times of species or species groups with molecular data, a method of constructing a linearized tree under the assumption of a molecular clock is developed and used to analyze hominoid mitochondrial DNA and drosophilid Adh gene sequences.

Molecular Evolution — A Phylogenetic Approach.

TL;DR: The authors set themselves the tasks of showing how evolutionary information is written into gene sequences and describing the methods by which such information can be recovered and succeed, providing a wealth of examples and setting many of them in a historical perspective.
