TLDR
This article reported Luria and Delbruck's breakthrough study in which they established that viruses do not induce mutations in bacteria, but that virus-resisting mutations are spontaneous.
Abstract
This article reported Luria and Delbruck's breakthrough study in which they established that viruses do not induce mutations in bacteria, but that virus-resisting mutations are spontaneous. Their "fluctuation test" theory demonstrated that bacteria were ideal subjects for genetic research.

Bacterial Growth Rate and Marine Virus-Host Dynamics.

TL;DR: The simulation indicated that a steady state relationship between the specific viruses and sensitive and resistant bacterial clones may occur at densities that are reasonable to assume for natural environments.

Use of a simplified fluctuation test to detect low levels of mutagens

TL;DR: A modification of the Luria and Delbrück fluctuation test in which the individual tubes are scored by eye for the presence or absence of a mutation appears to induce more mutations than might be predicted by extrapolation from short exposure experiments at higher doses.

Metastatic Heterogeneity of Cells from an Ultraviolet Light-induced Murine Fibrosarcoma of Recent Origin

TL;DR: It is concluded that the parent tumor is heterogeneous and that cells with widely different metastatic potential preexist in the parental population are found in the parents' population.

Escape of DNA from mitochondria to the nucleus in Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

TL;DR: The results show that, in yeast, DNA escapes from mitochondria and appears in the nucleus at a surprisingly high frequency, but the rate at which DNA makes the journey in the opposite direction—nucleus to mitochondria—is apparently at least 100,000 times less.

Methylation of p16(INK4a) promoters occurs in vivo in histologically normal human mammary epithelia.

TL;DR: It is shown that epithelial cells with methylation of p16 promoter sequences occur in focal patches of histologically normal mammary tissue of a substantial fraction of healthy, cancer-free women.

Inheritance of resistance of mice to enteric bacterial and neurotropic virus infections

TL;DR: A bacteria-resistant-virus-resistant line is being developed from a cross between bacteria-susceptible-v virus-resistant and bacteria- resistant- virus-sUSceptible lines, which proved uniformly susceptible to a strain of mouse passage rabies virus.

A Description of Some Color Variants Produced by Serratia marcescens, Strain 274

TL;DR: The work reported in this paper is of a preliminary nature and is concerned with the selection of a strain suitable for intensive study, the development of a special medium, and the recognition and characterization of specific variant types.
