TLDR
In this paper, the ozone depletion potential-weighted anthropogenic emissions of N2O with those of other ozone-depleting substances were compared, and it was shown that N 2O emission currently is the single most important ozone-destroying emission and is expected to remain the largest throughout the 21st century.Abstract:
By comparing the ozone depletion potential-weighted anthropogenic emissions of N2O with those of other ozone-depleting substances, we show that N2O emission currently is the single most important ozone-depleting emission and is expected to remain the largest throughout the 21st century. N2O is unregulated by the Montreal Protocol. Limiting future N2O emissions would enhance the recovery of the ozone layer from its depleted state and would also reduce the anthropogenic forcing of the climate system, representing a win-win for both ozone and climate.read more

A bet-hedging strategy for denitrifying bacteria curtails their release of N2O.
Pawel Lycus,Manuel J. Soriano-Laguna,Morten Kjos,David J. Richardson,Andrew J. Gates,Daniel Aleksanteri Milligan,Åsa Frostegård,Linda Bergaust,Lars R. Bakken +8 more
TL;DR: Bet hedging is demonstrated in Paracoccus denitrificans when facing hypoxia: a minority of the cells synthesize NIR + NOR, the N2O source, while all synthesizing NOS, theN2O sink, hence the population becomes a strong net sink for N2 O.

Transient N2O accumulation and emission caused by O2 depletion in soil after liquid manure injection
TL;DR: In this paper, micro-scale distributions of O 2 and N 2 O in the soil were investigated to describe how nitrous oxide production within, and emission from, soils are regulated by anoxic volumes created by injection of liquid manure.

Effects of grazing on N2O production potential and abundance of nitrifying and denitrifying microbial communities in meadow-steppe grassland in northern China
Lei Zhong,Lei Zhong,Rui Du,Kai Ding,Xiaoming Kang,Frank Yonghong Li,Saman Bowatte,C. J. Hoogendoorn,Yanfen Wang,Yichao Rui,Lili Jiang,Shiping Wang +11 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that grazing induced grassland degradation may not necessarily be associated with a reduction in N2O emissions as reported in other semiarid grasslands in a more arid environment.

Biokinetic Characterization and Activities of N2O-Reducing Bacteria in Response to Various Oxygen Levels.
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used an O2 and N2O micro-respirometric system to compare the N 2O reduction kinetics of four strains, i.e., two strains of an Azospira sp. and Pseudomonas stutzeri and Paracoccus denitrificans, in the presence and absence of oxygen.

Toward a Better Assessment of Biochar-Nitrous Oxide Mitigation Potential at the Field Scale.
Elizabeth Verhoeven,Engil Isadora Pujol Pereira,Charlotte Decock,Emma C. Suddick,Teri E. Angst,Johan Six +5 more
TL;DR: This study shows yield benefits but no robust evidence for NO emission reductions by biochar under field conditions and discusses the need for future biochar field studies to investigate effects of fertilizer N form, sustained and biologically relevant changes in soil moisture, multiple biochars per site, and time since biochar application.
