NOx precursors from biomass pyrolysis: Distribution of amino acids in biomass and Tar-N during devolatilization using model compounds

TLDR
In this paper, the formation behavior of NO x precursors during biomass devolatilization was investigated using two types of pyrolysis reactors at different heating rates with model compounds (i.e., mixtures of various amino acids and cellulose/lignin).

Transformation of Nitrogen and Evolution of N-Containing Species during Algae Pyrolysis

TL;DR: Results indicated nitrogen in algae is mainly in the form of protein-N with some inorganic-N, and a mechanism of nitrogen transformation during algae pyrolysis is proposed based on amino acids decomposition.

Fast pyrolysis of cotton stalk biomass using calcium oxide.

TL;DR: Variation in the CaO/biomass (Ca/B) mass ratios and pyrolysis temperatures indicated that CaO could act as a reactant, an absorbent, and a catalyst at Ca/B ratios of <0.2, >1, and >0.4, respectively.

Co-pyrolysis of lignocellulosic biomass and microalgae: Products characteristics and interaction effect.

TL;DR: Results showed that nitrogen in microalgae preferred to transform into solid char and gas phase during co-pyrolysis, while more pyrrolic-N and quaternary-N generated with diminishing protein-n and pyridinic-N in char, whereas acetic acid, O-containing species, and N-containing compounds decreased greatly.

Algae pyrolytic poly-generation: Influence of component difference and temperature on products characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the influence of pyrolysis temperature and biochemical components (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids) of algae on pyrotechnic behavior and products characteristics.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of biochar addition on nitrogen transformation during copyrolysis of algae and lignocellulosic biomass.

TL;DR: Results demonstrated that biochar addition showed a positive influence on fixation of N-species during thermochemical conversion of algae and could convert nitrogen to valuable N-doped biochar materials.

Effect of biodiesel fuels on diesel engine emissions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors collected and analyzed the body of work written mainly in scientific journals about diesel engine emissions when using biodiesel fuels as opposed to conventional diesel fuels, focusing on the most concerning emissions: nitric oxides and particulate matter.

Fuel nitrogen conversion in solid fuel fired systems

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of fuel characteristics, devolatilization conditions and combustion mode on the oxidation selectivity towards NO and N 2 is evaluated and even under idealized conditions, such as a laminar pulverized-fuel flame, the governing mechanisms for fuel nitrogen conversion are not completely understood.

Amino‐Acid Properties and Consequences of Substitutions

TL;DR: Since the earliest protein sequences and structures were determined, it has been clear that the positioning and properties of amino acids are key to understanding many biological processes, and the first-determined protein structure, haemoglobin, provided a molecular explanation for the genetic disease sickle cell anaemia.

Pollutants from the combustion of solid biomass fuels

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the pollutants formed by the combustion of solid biomass fuels is presented, including NOx, smoke and unburned hydrocarbons, SOx, Cl compounds, and particulate metal aerosols.

A comparison of specific leaf area, chemical composition and leaf construction costs of field plants from 15 habitats differing in productivity

TL;DR: SLA in the field was generally lower than in the laboratory, but showed consistency in that the ranking across species remained the same, although individual species sometimes deviated substantially from the general trend.
