Abstract
This book presents a comprehensive review of the subject of gravitational effects in quantum field theory. Although the treatment is general, special emphasis is given to the Hawking black hole evaporation effect, and to particle creation processes in the early universe. The last decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in this subject. This is the first attempt to collect and unify the vast literature that has contributed to this development. All the major technical results are presented, and the theory is developed carefully from first principles. Here is everything that students or researchers will need to embark upon calculations involving quantum effects of gravity at the so-called one-loop approximation level.

Group field cosmology: a cosmological field theory of quantum geometry

TL;DR: In this article, the wave function of canonical quantum cosmology is promoted to a field, the coordinates are minisuperspace variables, the kinetic operator is the Hamiltonian constraint operator and the action features a nonlinear and possibly nonlocal interaction term.

Waiting for Unruh

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that detailed balance does not hold when grows as a power-law in as, provided the switch-on and switch-off intervals are stretched proportionally to and the switching function has sufficiently strong Fourier decay.

Harvesting correlations in Schwarzschild and collapsing shell spacetimes

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the performance of two Unruh-DeWitt static detectors from the vacuum state of a massless scalar field in a background Vaidya spacetime consisting of a collapsing null shell that forms a Schwarzschild black hole.

Surface Casimir densities and induced cosmological constant in higher dimensional braneworlds

Aram A. Saharian
- 29 Aug 2006 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the surface energy-momentum tensor for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling parameter obeying the Robin boundary conditions on two codimension one-parallel branes in a (D+1)-dimensional background spacetime.

Asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes and conserved quantities in higher curvature gravitational theories

TL;DR: In this article, the Ricci tensor was used to define an asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime in higher curvature gravitational theories and a conservation law of the gravitational field was derived.

Particle Creation by Black Holes

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that quantum mechanical effects cause black holes to create and emit particles as if they were hot bodies with temperature, which leads to a slow decrease in the mass of the black hole and to its eventual disappearance.

Foundations of the Theory of Dynamical Systems of Infinitely Many Degrees of Freedom, II

TL;DR: The notion of quantum field remains at this time still rather elusive from a rigorous standpoint as mentioned in this paper, and it was recognized very early by Bohr and Rosenfeld that even in the case of a free field, no physical meaning could be attached to the values of the field at a particular point, only the suitably smoothed averages over finite space-time regions had such a meaning.

Evidence for the existence of gravitational radiation from measurements of the binary pulsar psr 1913+16

TL;DR: The results of four years of timing observations of PSR 1913+16 made with the 305m telescope at the Arecibo Observatory at frequencies near 430 and 1410 MHz are summarized in this paper.
