TLDR
A comprehensive review of the subject of gravitational effects in quantum field theory can be found in this paper, where special emphasis is given to the Hawking black hole evaporation effect, and to particle creation processes in the early universe.Abstract:
This book presents a comprehensive review of the subject of gravitational effects in quantum field theory. Although the treatment is general, special emphasis is given to the Hawking black hole evaporation effect, and to particle creation processes in the early universe. The last decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in this subject. This is the first attempt to collect and unify the vast literature that has contributed to this development. All the major technical results are presented, and the theory is developed carefully from first principles. Here is everything that students or researchers will need to embark upon calculations involving quantum effects of gravity at the so-called one-loop approximation level.read more

Trace-anomaly driven inflation in modified gravity and the BICEP2 result
TL;DR: In this paper, a conformal-anomaly driven inflation in the flat homogeneous and isotropic universe is studied, and it is shown that the Ricci scalar decreases during inflation and the standard evolution history of the universe is recovered at the small curvature regime.

Photon creation and excitation of a detector in a cavity with a resonantly vibrating wall
TL;DR: In this article, the problem of photon generation inside an ideal 3D cavity with resonantly vibrating walls is studied, and the possibility of creating from a vacuum up to 104 photons in a cavity with a Q-factor of about 3 × 1010 is predicted.

Energy-momentum tensor of particles created in an expanding universe
TL;DR: In this paper, a general formulation of the time-dependent initial value problem for a quantum scalar field of arbitrary mass and curvature coupling in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmological model is presented.

Black hole evaporation along macroscopic strings.

TL;DR: The quantization of a macroscopic string which extends radially from a Schwarzschild black hole is developed and it is shown that the energy flux in string excitations is approximately that of spacetime field modes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fermion absorption cross section of a Schwarzschild black hole
TL;DR: In this article, the absorption of massive spin-half particles by a small Schwarzschild black hole was studied by numerically solving the single-particle Dirac equation in Painleve-Gullstrand coordinates.

Particle Creation by Black Holes
TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that quantum mechanical effects cause black holes to create and emit particles as if they were hot bodies with temperature, which leads to a slow decrease in the mass of the black hole and to its eventual disappearance.

Foundations of the Theory of Dynamical Systems of Infinitely Many Degrees of Freedom, II
TL;DR: The notion of quantum field remains at this time still rather elusive from a rigorous standpoint as mentioned in this paper, and it was recognized very early by Bohr and Rosenfeld that even in the case of a free field, no physical meaning could be attached to the values of the field at a particular point, only the suitably smoothed averages over finite space-time regions had such a meaning.

TL;DR: The results of four years of timing observations of PSR 1913+16 made with the 305m telescope at the Arecibo Observatory at frequencies near 430 and 1410 MHz are summarized in this paper.
