Abstract
This book presents a comprehensive review of the subject of gravitational effects in quantum field theory. Although the treatment is general, special emphasis is given to the Hawking black hole evaporation effect, and to particle creation processes in the early universe. The last decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in this subject. This is the first attempt to collect and unify the vast literature that has contributed to this development. All the major technical results are presented, and the theory is developed carefully from first principles. Here is everything that students or researchers will need to embark upon calculations involving quantum effects of gravity at the so-called one-loop approximation level.

Cosmological viability of f(R)-gravity as an ideal fluid and its compatibility with a matter dominated phase

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that f ( R ) -gravity can give rise to cosmological viable models compatible with a matter-dominated epoch evolving into a late accelerated phase.

The inflationary Universe

TL;DR: According to the inflationary universe scenario, the Universe in the very early stages of its evolution was exponentially expanding in the unstable vacuum-like state as mentioned in this paper, and at the end of the exponential expansions (inflation) the energy of a classical scalar field transforms into the energy energy of hot dense matter, and the subsequent evolution of the Universe is described by the usual hot universe theory.

Quantum Gravity In De Sitter Space

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the difficulties in defining precisely calculable or measurable observables in an asymptotically de Sitter spacetime, and explore some meta-observables that appear to make mathematical sense but cannot be measured by an observer who lives in the spacetime.

Quantum Gravity in Everyday Life: General Relativity as an Effective Field Theory

TL;DR: This article is meant as a summary and introduction to the ideas of effective field theory as applied to gravitational systems, ideas which provide the theoretical foundations for the modern use of general relativity.

Entanglement entropy in free quantum field theory

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce the general methods to calculate the entanglement entropy for free fields, within the Euclidean and the real-time formalisms, and describe the particular examples which have been worked out explicitly in two, three and more dimensions.

Particle Creation by Black Holes

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that quantum mechanical effects cause black holes to create and emit particles as if they were hot bodies with temperature, which leads to a slow decrease in the mass of the black hole and to its eventual disappearance.

Foundations of the Theory of Dynamical Systems of Infinitely Many Degrees of Freedom, II

TL;DR: The notion of quantum field remains at this time still rather elusive from a rigorous standpoint as mentioned in this paper, and it was recognized very early by Bohr and Rosenfeld that even in the case of a free field, no physical meaning could be attached to the values of the field at a particular point, only the suitably smoothed averages over finite space-time regions had such a meaning.

Evidence for the existence of gravitational radiation from measurements of the binary pulsar psr 1913+16

TL;DR: The results of four years of timing observations of PSR 1913+16 made with the 305m telescope at the Arecibo Observatory at frequencies near 430 and 1410 MHz are summarized in this paper.
