Abstract
This book presents a comprehensive review of the subject of gravitational effects in quantum field theory. Although the treatment is general, special emphasis is given to the Hawking black hole evaporation effect, and to particle creation processes in the early universe. The last decade has witnessed a phenomenal growth in this subject. This is the first attempt to collect and unify the vast literature that has contributed to this development. All the major technical results are presented, and the theory is developed carefully from first principles. Here is everything that students or researchers will need to embark upon calculations involving quantum effects of gravity at the so-called one-loop approximation level.

Who's afraid of naked singularities? Probing timelike singularities with finite energy waves

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the well posedness of initial value problems for test scalar fields with finite energy so that the natural function space of initial data is the Sobolev space.

Can the Universe Create Itself

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the idea of whether there is anything in the laws of physics that would prevent the universe from creating itself, and they show that a universe with CTCs can be stable against vacuum polarization if and only if the potentials in this universe are retarded.

Nonsingular cosmological model with torsion induced by vacuum quantum effects

TL;DR: In this article, the authors calculated the anomalous trace of the stress energy tensor for massless scalar and spinor fields in curved spacetime with torsion, and solved the equation of motion resulting from the effective action.

Overspinning a nearly extreme charged black hole via a quantum tunneling process

TL;DR: The absorption rate associated with the quantum tunneling process of scalar particles whereby this black hole can acquire enough angular momentum to violate the weak cosmic-censorship conjecture is shown to be nonzero.

Fluctuation-dissipation relation for semiclassical cosmology.

TL;DR: Using the concept of open systems where the classical geometry is treated as the system and the quantum matter field as the environment, a fluctuation-dissipation theorem is derived for semiclassical cosmology and it is shown how the creation of particles and the dissipation of anisotropy during the expansion of the Universe can be understood as a manifestation of this fluctuation and noise relation.

Particle Creation by Black Holes

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that quantum mechanical effects cause black holes to create and emit particles as if they were hot bodies with temperature, which leads to a slow decrease in the mass of the black hole and to its eventual disappearance.

Foundations of the Theory of Dynamical Systems of Infinitely Many Degrees of Freedom, II

TL;DR: The notion of quantum field remains at this time still rather elusive from a rigorous standpoint as mentioned in this paper, and it was recognized very early by Bohr and Rosenfeld that even in the case of a free field, no physical meaning could be attached to the values of the field at a particular point, only the suitably smoothed averages over finite space-time regions had such a meaning.

Evidence for the existence of gravitational radiation from measurements of the binary pulsar psr 1913+16

TL;DR: The results of four years of timing observations of PSR 1913+16 made with the 305m telescope at the Arecibo Observatory at frequencies near 430 and 1410 MHz are summarized in this paper.
