In this article, a character table for the group of the wave vector at certain points of symmetry in the Brillouin zone is given, and a possible reason for the complications which may make a simple effective mass concept invalid for some crystals of this type structure is presented.
Abstract
Character tables for the "group of the wave vector" at certain points of symmetry in the Brillouin zone are given. The additional degeneracies due to time reversal symmetry are indicated. The form of energy vs wave vector at these points of symmetry is derived. A possible reason for the complications which may make a simple effective mass concept invalid for some crystals of this type structure will be presented.

Spin-orbital effects in metal-dichalcogenide semiconducting monolayers.

TL;DR: Metal-dioxide & metal-dichalcogenide monolayers are studied by means of Density Functional Theory and the spin orbit interaction is considered by using fully relativistic pseudopotentials (FRUP).

Manipulation of mobile spin coherence using magnetic-field-free electron spin resonance

TL;DR: In this article, the electron spin can be manipulated in the absence of an applied magnetic field, by exploiting the spin-orbit coupling of electrons travelling on surface acoustic waves, without the need for external magnetic fields.

Spin-orbit splitting in an anisotropic two-dimensional electron gas

TL;DR: In this paper, the spin polarization of the electronic states is rotated out of the confinement plane and the spin-orbit interaction is investigated by means of a nearly-free electron model.

Tricriticalities and Quantum Phases in Spin-Orbit-Coupled Spin-1 Bose Gases.

TL;DR: In this paper, the zero-temperature phase diagram of a spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate of spin 1, with equally weighted Rashba and Dresselhaus couplings, was studied.

Rationalizing and engineering Rashba spin-splitting in ferroelectric oxides

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the coexistence of large spontaneous polarization and sizeable spin-orbit coupling is not sufficient to have strong Rashba effects and clarify why simple ferroelectric oxide perovskites with transition metal at the B-site are typically not suitable FERSC candidates.

Effect of Time-Reversal Symmetry on Energy Bands of Crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, a criterion is developed to facilitate calculation of when and how such additional degeneracy will occur, and the consequences of the reality of the Hamiltonian are tabulated for a number of cases.
