In this article, a character table for the group of the wave vector at certain points of symmetry in the Brillouin zone is given, and a possible reason for the complications which may make a simple effective mass concept invalid for some crystals of this type structure is presented.
Abstract
Character tables for the "group of the wave vector" at certain points of symmetry in the Brillouin zone are given. The additional degeneracies due to time reversal symmetry are indicated. The form of energy vs wave vector at these points of symmetry is derived. A possible reason for the complications which may make a simple effective mass concept invalid for some crystals of this type structure will be presented.

Effective spin-orbit interaction in narrow quantum wells

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors showed that the interfacial spin-orbit interaction significantly renormalizes the value of the corresponding Rashba (αSIA) and Dresselhaus (αBIA) parameters.

Interplay of magnetic field and geometry in magneto-transport of mesoscopic loops with Rashba and Dresselhaus spin-orbit interactions

TL;DR: In this article, it has been shown that any one of the spin-orbit fields can be estimated precisely if the other one is known, by observing either the transmission resonance or anti-resonance of unpolarized electrons.

Spin tunneling through an indirect barrier: Tight-binding calculations

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied spin-dependent tunneling through an indirect-band-gap barrier and showed that large spin polarization can be obtained for energy windows that significantly exceed the spin splitting.

Origin of photoluminescence from colloidal gallium phosphide nanocrystals synthesized via a hot-injection method

TL;DR: In this article, photoluminescence from colloidal GaP nanocrystals (NCs) synthesized via a hot-injection method is observed and analyzed, and the emission and excitation spectra of the GaP NCs indicate that two transitions, near the direct and indirect bandgaps of bulk GaP, are responsible for the luminescence.

Vortex modes supported by spin-orbit coupling in a laser with saturable absorption

TL;DR: In this paper, a system of two component two-dimensional (2D) complex Ginzburg-Landau equations with spin-orbit-coupling (SOC) was introduced, which describes a wide-aperture microcavity laser with saturable gain and absorption.

Effect of Time-Reversal Symmetry on Energy Bands of Crystals

TL;DR: In this paper, a criterion is developed to facilitate calculation of when and how such additional degeneracy will occur, and the consequences of the reality of the Hamiltonian are tabulated for a number of cases.
