Journal ArticleDOI

Neisseria meningitidis Lacking the Major Porins PorA and PorB Is Viable and Modulates Apoptosis and the Oxidative Burst of Neutrophils.

TL;DR: These porin mutants are not impaired in their capacity to inhibit both staurosporine-induced apoptosis and a phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-induced oxidative burst in human neutrophils suggesting that the porins are not the only bacterial factors that can modulate these processes in host cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

HerMES: A DEFICIT IN THE SURFACE BRIGHTNESS OF THE COSMIC INFRARED BACKGROUND DUE TO GALAXY CLUSTER GRAVITATIONAL LENSING

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured the surface brightness of four massive galaxy clusters with the SPIRE instrument on the Herschel Space Observatory and measured a deficit of surface brightness within their central region after removing detected sources.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydration dynamics of human fingernails : An ellipsometric study

TL;DR: From a simple model, the hydration profiles of "free" and "bound" water during, both, hydration and dehydration are determined and attribute these processes to " free" water incorporated between the keratin filaments and water more tightly "bound", respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

‘Omic’ Approaches to Study Uropathogenic Escherichia coli Virulence

TL;DR: Progress is outlined in understanding of UPEC pathogenesis using genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics and a view for future developments using these exciting forefront technologies is presented.
