Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatitis C virus nonstructural protein 4B: a journey into unexplored territory.

TL;DR: Progress in this direction should yield important insights into the functional architecture of the HCV replication complex and may reveal new opportunities for antiviral intervention against a leading cause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatitis C virus protein expression causes calcium‐mediated mitochondrial bioenergetic dysfunction and nitro‐oxidative stress

TL;DR: It was shown that HCV protein expression has a profound effect on cell oxidative metabolism, with specific inhibition of complex I activity, depression of mitochondrial membrane potential and oxidative phosphorylation coupling efficiency, increased production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, as well as loss of the Pasteur effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

GLUT3 is induced during epithelial-mesenchymal transition and promotes tumor cell proliferation in non-small cell lung cancer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the neuronal glucose transporter GLUT3 contributes to glucose uptake and proliferation of lung tumor cells that have undergone an EMT and demonstrate that GLUT-3 is strongly expressed in mesenchymal but not epithelial cells, a finding corroborated in hepatoma cells.
