A global synthesis reveals biodiversity-mediated benefits for crop production

Matteo Dainese, +106 more
- 16 Oct 2019 -
TL;DR: Using a global database from 89 studies (with 1475 locations), the relative importance of species richness, abundance, and dominance for pollination; biological pest control; and final yields in the context of ongoing land-use change is partitioned.

A global synthesis reveals biodiversity-mediated benefits for crop production

Matteo Dainese, +103 more
- 20 Feb 2019 -
TL;DR: Using a global database from 89 crop systems, the relative importance of abundance and species richness for pollination, biological pest control and final yields in the context of on-going land-use change is partitioned.
Journal ArticleDOI

Crop fertilization affects pollination service provision – Common bean as a case study

TL;DR: Interactive effects between fertilization practices and the provision of ecosystem services in a biodiversity hotspot where conventional agriculture is rapidly expanding (Brazilian savannas) are investigated and ecological intensification is suggested as a valuable alternative for common bean production in Brazil and potentially other regions of the world.
Journal ArticleDOI

Native pollinators improve the quality and market value of common bean

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the effect of pollinators on the quality of common beans and found that higher densities of native flower visitors were associated with an increased probability of a given bean being classified as High quality from 8.8% up to 67.5%.
