TL;DR: It is shown that non-bee insect pollinators play a significant role in global crop production and respond differently than bees to landscape structure, probably making their crop pollination services more robust to changes in land use.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Using a global database from 89 studies (with 1475 locations), the relative importance of species richness, abundance, and dominance for pollination; biological pest control; and final yields in the context of ongoing land-use change is partitioned.

Disentangling ‘ecosystem services’ and ‘nature’s contributions to people’
Andrew N. Kadykalo,María D. López-Rodríguez,Jacob Ainscough,Nils Droste,Hyeonju Ryu,Giovanni Ávila-Flores,Solen Le Clec'h,Marcia Muñoz,Lovisa Nilsson,Sakshi Rana,Priyanka Sarkar,Katharina J. Sevecke,Zuzana V. Harmáčková +12 more
TL;DR: The relationship between people and nature has been experienced and conceptualized in mul... as mentioned in this paper, where the relationship between humans and nature is discussed in the context of human existence and wellbeing, and people depend on functioning ecosystems, which provide benefits that support human existence.

Ecosystem services—current challenges and opportunities for ecological research
Klaus Birkhofer,Eva Diehl,Jesper Andersson,Johan Ekroos,Andrea Früh-Müller,Franziska Machnikowski,Viktoria Mader,Lovisa Nilsson,Keiko Sasaki,Maj Rundlöf,Volkmar Wolters,Henrik G. Smith +11 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify major challenges and opportunities for ecologists involved in empirical or modeling ecosystem service research and suggest basing the assessment of ecosystem services on the utilization of sets of indicators covering aspects of service-providing units, ecosystem management and landscape modification.
