Regarding “Clostridium Difficile Ribotype Does Not Predict Severe Infection”
A. Sarah Walker,A. Sarah Walker,David W Eyre,David W Eyre,Derrick W. Crook,Derrick W. Crook,Mark H. Wilcox,Tim E. A. Peto,Tim E. A. Peto +8 more
TL;DR: This study shows that WBC count and albumin are strong predictors of C. difficile severity and that there is an unadjusted association between strain and severity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Guidelines for the management of patients colonized or infected with vancomycinresistant enterococci
Journal ArticleDOI
Vancomycin MIC as a predictor of outcome in MRSA bacteraemia in the UK context
Russell Hope,Ruth Blackburn,Neville Q. Verlander,Alan P. Johnson,Angela Kearns,Robert Hill,Susan Hopkins,Susan Hopkins,Elizabeth Sheridan,David M. Livermore,David M. Livermore,Matthew Scarborough,S. Majumdar,J. Cunniffe,M. Farrington,Theodore Gouliouris,C. Marodi,P. Godwin,Andrew Tuck,R. E. Warren,P. Coe,Ibrahim A. Hassan,P. Mannion,K. Loudon,E. Youngs,A. Johnson,M. Lee,V. Weston,Achyut Guleri,Robin Howe,D. Matthew,Simon Cotterill,N. Todd,Bharti Patel,D. Mlangeni,J. M. Stockley,R. Spencer,J. Gardner,Guy E. Thwaites,Andrew Kirby,Derrick W. Crook,M. Llewellyn,Josh Price,S. Morris Jones,Robert Tilley +44 more
TL;DR: Subtle vancomycin MIC differences did not correlate with worse outcomes for van comycin monotherapy or for vancomYcin/rifampicin co-therapy in MRSA bacteraemia, and detecting such small MIC differences seems unlikely to be reliable in routine laboratories.
Posted ContentDOI
High precision Neisseria gonorrhoeae variant and antimicrobial resistance calling from metagenomic Nanopore sequencing
Nicholas D Sanderson,Jeremy Swann,Leanne Barker,James Kavanagh,Sarah Hoosdally,Derrick W. Crook,Teresa L Street,David W Eyre +7 more
TL;DR: The findings show that metagenomic Nanopore sequencing can provide reliable diagnostic information in N. gonorrhoeae infection and a minimum depth of 20x reads was required to confidently identify resistant determinants over the entire genome.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antibiotic Review Kit for Hospitals (ARK-Hospital): study protocol for a stepped-wedge cluster-randomised controlled trial.
Ann Sarah Walker,Eric Budgell,Magda Laskawiec-Szkonter,Katy Sivyer,Sarah Wordsworth,Jack L Quaddy,Marta Santillo,Adele Krusche,Laurence Roope,Nicole Bright,Fiona Mowbray,Nicola Jones,Kieran Hand,Najib M. Rahman,Melissa Dobson,Emma L. Hedley,Derrick W. Crook,Mike Sharland,Chris Roseveare,FD Richard Hobbs,Christopher C Butler,Louella Vaughan,Susan Hopkins,Susan Hopkins,Lucy Yardley,Lucy Yardley,Tim E. A. Peto,Martin J. Llewelyn +27 more
TL;DR: ARK-Hospital aims to provide a feasible, sustainable and generalisable mechanism for increasing antibiotic stopping in patients who no longer need to receive them at ‘review and revise’.
