Analyses of pig genomes provide insight into porcine demography and evolution

Martien A. M. Groenen, +141 more
- 15 Nov 2012 -
TL;DR: The assembly and analysis of the genome sequence of a female domestic Duroc pig and a comparison with the genomes of wild and domestic pigs from Europe and Asia reveal a deep phylogenetic split between European and Asian wild boars ∼1 million years ago.
Journal ArticleDOI

Somatic retrotransposition alters the genetic landscape of the human brain

TL;DR: A high-throughput method is applied to identify numerous L1, Alu and SVA germline mutations, as well as 7,743 putative somatic L1 insertions, in the hippocampus and caudate nucleus of three individuals, demonstrating that retrotransposons mobilize to protein-coding genes differentially expressed and active in the brain.
