Journal ArticleDOI

Analyses of pig genomes provide insight into porcine demography and evolution

Martien A. M. Groenen, +141 more
- 15 Nov 2012 -
TL;DR: The assembly and analysis of the genome sequence of a female domestic Duroc pig and a comparison with the genomes of wild and domestic pigs from Europe and Asia reveal a deep phylogenetic split between European and Asian wild boars ∼1 million years ago.
Journal ArticleDOI

Minke whale genome and aquatic adaptation in cetaceans

TL;DR: Overall the whale-genome sequences exhibited distinct features that are associated with the physiological and morphological changes needed for life in an aquatic environment, marked by resistance to physiological stresses caused by a lack of oxygen, increased amounts of reactive oxygen species and high salt levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

The complete swine olfactory subgenome: expansion of the olfactory gene repertoire in the pig genome

TL;DR: It is shown that S. scrofa has one of the largest OR repertoires, suggesting an expansion of OR genes in the swine genome, and a significant number of unique OR gene in the pig genome may suggest the presence of swine specific olfactory stimulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of cattle olfactory subgenome: the first detail study on the characteristics of the complete olfactory receptor repertoire of a ruminant

TL;DR: The analysis of the genetic system of cattle ORs showed close similarities to that of the pig, and revealed the almost complete OR gene repertoire from an individual cattle genome.
