Effect of Empirical Treatment With Moxifloxacin and Meropenem vs Meropenem on Sepsis-Related Organ Dysfunction in Patients With Severe Sepsis: A Randomized Trial
Frank M. Brunkhorst,Michael Oppert,Gernot Marx,Frank Bloos,Katrin Ludewig,Christian Putensen,Axel Nierhaus,Ulrich Jaschinski,Andreas Meier-Hellmann,Andreas Weyland,Matthias Gründling,Onnen Moerer,Reimer Riessen,Armin Seibel,Maximilian Ragaller,Markus W. Büchler,Stefan John,Friedhelm Bach,Claudia Spies,Lorenz Reill,Harald Fritz,Michael Kiehntopf,Evelyn Kuhnt,Holger Bogatsch,Christoph Engel,Markus Loeffler,Marin H. Kollef,Konrad Reinhart,Tobias Welte +28 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the effect of moxifloxacin and meropenem with the effect on sepsis-related organ dysfunction and concluded that meropenems alone did not result in less organ failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of a novel extracorporeal cytokine hemoadsorption device on IL-6 elimination in septic patients: A randomized controlled trial
Dirk Schädler,Christine Pausch,Daniel Heise,Andreas Meier-Hellmann,Jörg Brederlau,Norbert Weiler,Gernot Marx,Christian Putensen,Claudia Spies,Achim Jörres,Michael Quintel,Christoph Engel,John A. Kellum,Martin K. Kuhlmann +13 more
TL;DR: In this patient population with predominantly septic shock and multiple organ failure, hemoadsorption removed IL-6 but this did not lead to lower plasma IL- 6-levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Hydrocortisone on Development of Shock Among Patients With Severe Sepsis The HYPRESS Randomized Clinical Trial
Didier Keh,Evelyn Trips,Gernot Marx,Stefan Wirtz,Emad Abduljawwad,Sven Bercker,Holger Bogatsch,Josef Briegel,Christoph Engel,Herwig Gerlach,Anton Goldmann,Sven-Olaf Kuhn,Lars Hüter,Andreas Meier-Hellmann,Axel Nierhaus,Stefan Kluge,Josefa Lehmke,Markus Loeffler,Michael Oppert,Kerstin Resener,Dirk Schädler,Tobias Schuerholz,Philipp Simon,Norbert Weiler,Andreas Weyland,Konrad Reinhart,Frank M. Brunkhorst +26 more
TL;DR: Among adults with severe sepsis not in septic shock, use of hydrocortisone compared with placebo did not reduce the risk of septicshock within 14 days, and these findings do not support the use ofHydroc Cortisone in these patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of hydroxyethyl starch administration on renal function in critically ill patients
Yasser Sakr,Didier Payen,Konrad Reinhart,Fernando Suárez Sipmann,Edward Zavala,Jeremy Bewley,Gernot Marx,Jean Louis Vincent +7 more
TL;DR: In this observational study, haematological cancer, the presence of sepsis, cardiovascular failure, and baseline renal function as assessed by the SOFA score were independent risk factors for the subsequent need for RRT in the ICU.
Journal ArticleDOI
Goal-directed intraoperative fluid therapy guided by stroke volume and its variation in high-risk surgical patients: a prospective randomized multicentre study
TL;DR: This multicentre study shows that fluid management based on a SVV and SV optimisation protocol is feasible and decreases postoperative wound infections and suggests that a goal-directed strategy might decrease postoperative organ dysfunction.
