TL;DR: New recommendations for complement component 4d tissue staining and interpretation, staging liver allograft fibrosis, and findings related to immunosuppression minimization are included.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kidney Biopsy Findings in Patients with COVID-19.
Satoru Kudose,Ibrahim Batal,Dominick Santoriello,Katherine Xu,Jonathan Barasch,Yonatan Peleg,Pietro A. Canetta,Lloyd E. Ratner,Maddalena Marasa,Ali G. Gharavi,M. Barry Stokes,Glen S. Markowitz,Vivette D. D'Agati +12 more
TL;DR: These findings provide evidence against direct viral infection of the kidneys as the major pathomechanism for COVID-19-related kidney injury and implicate cytokine-mediated effects and heightened adaptive immune responses.
Journal ArticleDOI
Postmortem Kidney Pathology Findings in Patients with COVID-19.
Dominick Santoriello,Pascale Khairallah,Andrew S. Bomback,Katherine Xu,Satoru Kudose,Ibrahim Batal,Jonathan Barasch,Jai Radhakrishnan,Vivette D. D'Agati,Glen S. Markowitz +9 more
TL;DR: Among a cohort of 42 patients dying with COVID-19, autopsy histologic evaluation revealed acute tubular injury, which was typically mild relative to the degree of creatinine elevation, suggesting potential for reversibility upon resolution of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deleterious Effect of CTLA4‐Ig on a Treg‐Dependent Transplant Model
Leonardo V. Riella,T. Liu,Jun Yang,Susanne Chock,Tetsunosuke Shimizu,Bechara Mfarrej,Ibrahim Batal,Xiang Xiao,Mohamed H. Sayegh,Anil Chandraker +9 more
TL;DR: The importance of the B7:CD28 pathway in Treg homeostasis in an in vivo transplant model is confirmed and hCTLA4Ig therapy may be deleterious in circumstances where engraftment is dependent on Tregs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endothelial TNF Receptor 2 Induces IRF1 Transcription Factor-Dependent Interferon-β Autocrine Signaling to Promote Monocyte Recruitment
Deepak Venkatesh,Thomas Ernandez,Florencia Rosetti,Florencia Rosetti,Ibrahim Batal,Xavier Cullere,Francis W. Luscinskas,Yuzhi Zhang,George Stavrakis,Guillermo García-Cardeña,Bruce H. Horwitz,Tanya N. Mayadas +11 more
TL;DR: The data identify a pathway in endothelial cells that selectively recruits monocytes during a TNF-induced inflammatory response that is essential for sustained macrophage accumulation.
