Journal ArticleDOI
A transcriptional sketch of a primary human breast cancer by 454 deep sequencing
Alessandro Guffanti,Michele Iacono,Paride Pelucchi,Namshin Kim,Namshin Kim,Giulia Soldà,Larry Croft,Ryan J. Taft,Ermanno Rizzi,Marjan E. Askarian-Amiri,Raoul J. P. Bonnal,Maurizio Callari,Flavio Mignone,Graziano Pesole,Graziano Pesole,Giovanni Bertalot,Luigi Rossi Bernardi,Alberto Albertini,Christopher Lee,John S. Mattick,Ileana Zucchi,Gianluca De Bellis +21 more
TL;DR: This method utilizes a cDNA library normalization step to diminish the representation of highly expressed transcripts and biology-oriented bioinformatic analyses to facilitate detection of rare and novel transcripts, revealing many hitherto unknown transcripts, splice isoforms, gene fusion events and ncRNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI
Progesterone derivatives are able to influence peripheral myelin protein 22 and P0 gene expression: possible mechanisms of action.
Roberto Cosimo Melcangi,Valerio Magnaghi,Ilaria T. Cavarretta,Ileana Zucchi,Patrizia Bovolin,D. D'Urso,Luciano Martini +6 more
TL;DR: The data obtained indicate that tetrahydroprogesterone is able to stimulate the gene expression of peripheral myelin protein 22 both in vivo (in adult but not in old animals) and in Schwann cell cultures.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gene expression profiles of epithelial cells microscopically isolated from a breast-invasive ductal carcinoma and a nodal metastasis
Ileana Zucchi,E. Mento,Vladimir A. Kuznetsov,Maddalena Scotti,V. Valsecchi,Barbara Simionati,E. Vicinanza,Giorgio Valle,S. Pilotti,Rolland Reinbold,Paolo Vezzoni,Alberto Albertini,Renato Dulbecco +12 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the expression profiles obtained are exclusive of carcinoma cells with no contribution of non-epithelial cells, suggesting that the down-regulation of a set of genes may be the basic mechanism of cancer formation, while the up-regulation may characterize and possibly control the state of evolution of individual cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Syndecan-1 (CD138) Modulates Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Stem Cell Properties via Regulation of LRP-6 and IL-6-Mediated STAT3 Signaling
Sherif Abdelaziz Ibrahim,Hebatallah Hassan,Laura Vilardo,Sampath Katakam Kumar,Archana Kumar,Reinhard Kelsch,Cornelia Schneider,Ludwig Kiesel,Hans Theodor Eich,Ileana Zucchi,Rolland Reinbold,Burkhard Greve,Martin Götte +12 more
TL;DR: As Syndecan-1 modulates the cancer stem cell phenotype via regulation of the Wnt and IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathways, it emerges as a promising novel target for therapeutic approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
The properties of a mammary gland cancer stem cell
Ileana Zucchi,S. Sanzone,Simonetta Astigiano,Paride Pelucchi,Maddalena Scotti,V. Valsecchi,Ottavia Barbieri,Gloria Bertoli,Alberto Albertini,Rolland Reinbold,Renato Dulbecco +10 more
TL;DR: The properties of self-renewal, extensive capacity for proliferation, multilineage differentiation potential, and single-cell tumor-initiation potential suggest that LA7 cells are cancer stem cells and can be used as a model system to study the dynamics of tumor formation at the single- cell level.
