The complete genome sequence of the Gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis

F. Kunst, +154 more
- 20 Nov 1997 -
TL;DR: Bacillus subtilis is the best-characterized member of the Gram-positive bacteria, indicating that bacteriophage infection has played an important evolutionary role in horizontal gene transfer, in particular in the propagation of bacterial pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

CotA of Bacillus subtilis Is a Copper-Dependent Laccase

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CotA is a laccase, which may participate in the biosynthesis of the brown spore pigment, which appears to be a melanin-like product and to protect against UV light.
Journal ArticleDOI

From a consortium sequence to a unified sequence: The Bacillus subtilis 168 reference genome a decade later

TL;DR: The updated sequence has been reannotated in agreement with the UniProt protein knowledge base, keeping in perspective the split between the paleome and the cenome, suggesting here that B. subtilis is an epiphyte.
Journal ArticleDOI

The complete genome sequence of the murine respiratory pathogen Mycoplasma pulmonis.

TL;DR: Surprisingly, several of the genes previously reported to be essential for a self-replicating minimal cell are missing in the M.pulmonis genome although this one is larger than the other mycoplasma genomes fully sequenced until now.
