Dickerman,Riccardo Velasco,Mark Borodovsky,Richard E. Veilleux,Kevin M. Folta +71 more
TL;DR: New phylogenetic analysis of 154 protein-coding genes suggests that assignment of Populus to Malvidae, rather than Fabidae, is warranted, and macrosyntenic relationships between Fragaria and Prunus predict a hypothetical ancestral Rosaceae genome that had nine chromosomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-quality de novo assembly of the apple genome and methylome dynamics of early fruit development
Nicolas Daccord,Jean-Marc Celton,Gareth Linsmith,Claude Becker,Nathalie Choisne,Elio Schijlen,Henri van de Geest,Luca Bianco,Diego Micheletti,Riccardo Velasco,Erica A. Di Pierro,Jérôme Gouzy,D. Jasper G. Rees,Philippe Guérif,Helene Muranty,Charles-Eric Durel,François Laurens,Yves Lespinasse,Sylvain Gaillard,Sébastien Aubourg,Hadi Quesneville,Detlef Weigel,Eric van de Weg,Michela Troggio,Etienne Bucher +24 more
TL;DR: High-quality de novo assembly of the apple genome is produced and genome-wide DNA methylation data suggest that epigenetic marks may contribute to agronomically relevant aspects, such as apple fruit development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deep sequencing analysis of viruses infecting grapevines: Virome of a vineyard
Coetzee B,Michael John Freeborough,Hans J. Maree,Jean-Marc Celton,D. Jasper G. Rees,Johan T. Burger +5 more
TL;DR: It was found that Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3 (GLRaV-3) is the most prevalent species, constituting 59% of the total reads, followed by Grapevine rupestris stem pitting- associated virus and Grapevine virus A.
Journal ArticleDOI
Construction of a dense genetic linkage map for apple rootstocks using SSRs developed from Malus ESTs and Pyrus genomic sequences
TL;DR: Applications of these new genetic maps include the elucidation of the genetic basis of the dwarfing effect of the apple rootstock ‘M.9’ and the analysis of disease and insect resistance traits such as fire blight, apple scab and woolly apple aphid.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genome mapping of three major resistance genes to woolly apple aphid ( Eriosoma lanigerum Hausm.)
Vincent G. M. Bus,David Chagné,H. Bassett,Deepa Bowatte,Fanny Calenge,Jean-Marc Celton,Charles-Eric Durel,M. T. Malone,Andrea Patocchi,A. C. Ranatunga,Erik H. A. Rikkerink,D.S. Tustin,J. Zhou,Susan E. Gardiner +13 more
TL;DR: The gene Er3, from ‘Aotea 1’ (an accession classified as Malus sieboldii), is a new major gene for WAA resistance.
