TL;DR: New phylogenetic analysis of 154 protein-coding genes suggests that assignment of Populus to Malvidae, rather than Fabidae, is warranted, and macrosyntenic relationships between Fragaria and Prunus predict a hypothetical ancestral Rosaceae genome that had nine chromosomes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Green light: a signal to slow down or stop
TL;DR: Roles of green light in the regulation of vegetative development, photoperiodic flowering, stomatal opening, stem growth modulation, chloroplast gene expression and plant stature are discussed, drawing from data gathered over the last 50 years of plant photobiological research.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multiple Models for Rosaceae Genomics
Vladimir Shulaev,Schuyler S. Korban,Bryon Sosinski,Albert G. Abbott,Herb S. Aldwinckle,Kevin M. Folta,Amy Iezzoni,Dorrie Main,Pere Arús,Abhaya M. Dandekar,Kim S. Lewers,Susan K. Brown,Thomas M. Davis,Susan E. Gardiner,Daniel Potter,Richard E. Veilleux +15 more
TL;DR: This report serves as a synopsis of the resources and initiatives of the Rosaceae community, recent developments in Rosaceae genomics, and plans to apply newly accumulated knowledge and resources toward breeding and crop improvement.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unexpected roles for cryptochrome 2 and phototropin revealed by high-resolution analysis of blue light-mediated hypocotyl growth inhibition.
Kevin M. Folta,Edgar P. Spalding +1 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that phototropin (nph1), the photoreceptor responsible for phototropism, is largely responsible for the initial, rapid inhibition and mutations in the NPQ1 gene do not affect any aspect of the growth inhibition within the first 120 min examined here.

Rapid and accurate pyrosequencing of angiosperm plastid genomes
Michael J. Moore,Michael J. Moore,Amit Dhingra,Pamela S. Soltis,Regina Shaw,William G. Farmerie,Kevin M. Folta,Douglas E. Soltis +7 more
TL;DR: The high accuracy observed in the GS 20 plastid genome sequence was generated for a significant reduction in time and cost over traditional shotgun-based genome sequencing techniques, although with approximately half the coverage of previously reported GS 20 de novo genome sequence.
