Local Air–Sea Relationship in Observations and Model Simulations
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the local simultaneous correlation between rainfall and sea surface temperature (SST) between observations, coupled general circulation model (CGCM) simulations, and stand-alone atmospheric AGCM simulations and found large discrepancies in the subtropics, midlatitudes, and tropical Indo-western Pacific Ocean regions.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Subseasonal Experiment (SubX): A Multimodel Subseasonal Prediction Experiment
Kathy Pegion,Ben P. Kirtman,Emily Becker,Dan C. Collins,E. Lajoie,Robert Burgman,Ray Bell,Timothy DelSole,Dughong Min,Yuejian Zhu,Wei Li,Eric Sinsky,Hong Guan,Jon Gottschalck,E. Green,Rainer Bleck,Hye-Mi Kim +28 more
TL;DR: The Subseasonal Experiment (SubX) as discussed by the authors is a multimodel subseasonal prediction experiment designed around operational requirements with the goal of improving sub-seasonal forecasts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Woolnough,Stephen Yeager +64 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors surveyed the state of S2S and S2D prediction, ongoing research, and future needs, providing an ideal basis for synthesizing current and emerging developments in these areas that promise to enhance future operational services.
Journal ArticleDOI
Seasonal sea surface temperature anomaly prediction for coastal ecosystems
Charles A. Stock,Kathy Pegion,Gabriel A. Vecchi,Michael A. Alexander,Desiree Tommasi,Nicholas A. Bond,Paula S. Fratantoni,R. Gudgel,Trond Kristiansen,Todd O'Brien,Yan Xue,Xiasong Yang,Xiasong Yang +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the skill of SST anomaly forecasts within coastal ecosystems accounting for the majority of global fish yields, and then examine how mechanisms responsible for prediction skill in these systems are reflected in predictions for LMEs globally.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Impact of Air–Sea Interactions on the Simulation of Tropical Intraseasonal Variability
Kathy Pegion,Ben P. Kirtman +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the impact of coupled air-sea feedbacks on the simulation of tropical intraseasonal variability was investigated using the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Climate Forecast System.
