The IPBES Conceptual Framework - connecting nature and people

Sandra Díaz, +83 more
TL;DR: The first public product of the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is its Conceptual Framework as discussed by the authors, which will underpin all IPBES functions and provide structure and comparability to the syntheses that will produce at different spatial scales, on different themes, and in different regions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing nature's contributions to people

TL;DR: The notion of nature's contributions to people (NCP) was introduced by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) as mentioned in this paper, a joint global effort by governments, academia, and civil society to assess and promote knowledge of Earth's biodiversity and ecosystems and their contribution to human societies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling integrated weed management of an invasive shrub in tropical Australia

TL;DR: It is shown that IWM can control M. pigra and that biocontrol is an effective part of this strategy, and the most successful IWM strategy is predicted to be an application of herbicides in year 1, mechanical control+fire in year 2 and herbicide in year 3, with reduction of disturbance where possible.
Journal ArticleDOI

Competition Experiments on Alien Weeds with Crops: Lessons for Measuring Plant Invasion Impact?

TL;DR: The per-plant competitiveness of alien weeds on crops as a model of invasive species impact in general is used and it is found that the impact of the weed cannot be considered independently of the crop and, thus, weed species should be cautious in ranking according to their competition effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

International cooperation in the solution to trade-related invasive species risks.

TL;DR: It is argued that it is important to bring that agreement into conformity with the International Health Regulations (IHR), and to develop an international mechanism to generate and disseminate information on invasive species risks and their impacts.
