Insights into Land Plant Evolution Garnered from the Marchantia polymorpha Genome

John L. Bowman, +118 more
- 05 Oct 2017 -
TL;DR: Compared with other sequenced land plants, M. polymorpha exhibits low genetic redundancy in most regulatory pathways, with this portion of its genome resembling that predicted for the ancestral land plant.

Journal ArticleDOI

Marchantia MpRKD Regulates the Gametophyte-Sporophyte Transition by Keeping Egg Cells Quiescent in the Absence of Fertilization.

TL;DR: Analysis of the MpRKD expression pattern and characterization of lines with reduced MpKD activity indicate that it functions as a regulator ofgametophyte development and the gametophytes-sporophyte transition, and is required to establish and maintain the quiescent state of the egg cell in the absence of fertilization.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extensive epigenetic reprogramming during the life cycle of Marchantia polymorpha

TL;DR: It is concluded that epigenetic reprogramming occurs at least twice during the life cycle of M. polymorpha and that the underlying mechanisms are likely different between the two events.

Characterization of the single FERONIA homolog in Marchantia polymorpha reveals an ancestral role of CrRLK1L receptor kinases in regulating cell expansion and morphological integrity

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors characterized the single CrRLK1L gene of Marchantia polymorpha, MpFERONIA (MpFER), and found that Mpfer null mutants and overexpression lines severely affect cell integrity and morphogenesis of the gametophyte.
