Journal ArticleDOI
The Optimal Anti-Coagulation for Enhanced-Risk Patients Post-Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation (OCEAN) trial.
Atul Verma,Andrew C.T. Ha,Paulus Kirchhof,Gerhard Hindricks,Jeff S. Healey,Michael D. Hill,Mukul Sharma,D. George Wyse,Jean Champagne,Vidal Essebag,George A. Wells,Dhiraj Gupta,Hein Heidbuchel,Prashanthan Sanders,David H. Birnie +14 more
TL;DR: It is hypothesized that rivaroxaban will reduce the occurrence of clinically overt stroke, systemic embolism, and covert stroke when compared with ASA alone in patients with risk factors for stroke after apparently successful AF ablation.
Journal ArticleDOI
A review of rate control in atrial fibrillation, and the rationale and protocol for the RATE-AF trial.
Dipak Kotecha,Melanie Calvert,Jonathan J Deeks,Michael Griffith,Paulus Kirchhof,Gregory Y.H. Lip,Samir Mehta,Gemma Slinn,Mary Stanbury,Richard P. Steeds,Jonathan N. Townend +10 more
TL;DR: The limited evidence from clinical trials that guides prescription is summarised, and the rationale and protocol for a new randomised trial of digoxin and beta-blockers in permanent Atrial Fibrillation are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epigenetic and Transcriptional Networks Underlying Atrial Fibrillation
Antoinette F. van Ouwerkerk,Amelia W. Hall,Amelia W. Hall,Zachary A. Kadow,Sonja Lazarevic,Jasmeet S. Reyat,Nathan R. Tucker,Nathan R. Tucker,Rangarajan D. Nadadur,Fernanda M Bosada,Valerio Bianchi,Patrick T. Ellinor,Patrick T. Ellinor,Larissa Fabritz,James F. Martin,Wouter de Laat,Paulus Kirchhof,Ivan P. Moskowitz,Vincent M. Christoffels +18 more
TL;DR: A transcriptional regulatory network model for AF defined by effector genes in Genome-wide association studies loci is discussed, and how altered transcriptional networks may impact cardiomyocyte function and ionic currents that impact AF risk is illustrated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced left atrial cardiomyocyte PITX2 and elevated circulating BMP10 predict atrial fibrillation after ablation
Jasmeet S. Reyat,Winnie Chua,Victor Roth Cardoso,Anika Witten,Peter Kastner,S. Nashitha Kabir,Moritz F. Sinner,Robin Wesselink,Andrew P. Holmes,Davor Pavlovic,Monika Stoll,Stefan Kääb,Georgios V. Gkoutos,Joris R. de Groot,Paulus Kirchhof,Larissa Fabritz +15 more
TL;DR: Reduced left atrial cardiomyocyte PITX2 and elevated plasma concentrations of the PITx2-repressed, secreted atrial protein BMP10 identify patients at risk of recurrent AF after ablation.
Journal ArticleDOI
The vulnerable period for low and high energy T-wave shocks: Role of dispersion of repolarisation and effect of d-sotalol
TL;DR: D-Sotalol reduces neither vulnerability to T-wave shocks nor dispersion of repolarisation in this isolated heart model and might be part of the arrhythmogenic substrate promoting induction of VF by T- wave shocks.
