Journal ArticleDOI

Whole genome analysis of a schistosomiasis-transmitting freshwater snail.

Coen M. Adema, +120 more
TL;DR: Parts of phero-perception, stress responses, immune function and regulation of gene expression that support the persistence of B. glabrata are described and several potential targets for developing novel control measures aimed at reducing snail-mediated transmission of schistosomiasis are identified.
Journal ArticleDOI

The giant African snail Achatina fulica as natural intermediate host of Angiostrongylus cantonensis in Pernambuco, northeast Brazil.

TL;DR: If A. fulica may act as intermediate host of A. cantonensis at the peridomiciliary areas of a patient's house from state of Pernambuco (PE), who was diagnosed with eosinophilic meningitis and a history of ingesting raw molluscs is assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Further studies on the molecular systematics of Biomphalaria snails from Brazil.

TL;DR: The study demonstrated that the ITS contains useful genetic markers for the identification of these snails and suggested a very close genetic similarity between the two species.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular differentiation of Angiostrongylus costaricensis, A. cantonensis, and A. vasorum by polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism

TL;DR: In order to obtain a diagnostic tool to differentiate larvae and adult worm from the three referred species, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism was carried out and proved to be efficient for the specific differentiation of the three species of Angiostrongylus under study.
