Statin Prevents Tissue Factor Expression in Human Endothelial Cells Role of Rho/Rho-Kinase and Akt Pathways

TL;DR: Endothelial tissue factor induction by thrombin is regulated by Rho/Rho-kinase, Akt, and p38 MAP kinase, which provides new insights into the action of statins in acute coronary syndromes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term effects of darusentan on left-ventricular remodelling and clinical outcomes in the EndothelinA Receptor Antagonist Trial in Heart Failure (EARTH): randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

TL;DR: Endothelin(A) blockade with darusentan did not improve cardiac remodelling or clinical symptoms or outcomes in patients with chronic heart failure receiving an angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitor, beta blocker, or aldosterone antagonist, and is unlikely to be useful as an add-on treatment in such patients.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diabetes Promotes Cardiac Stem Cell Aging and Heart Failure, Which Are Prevented by Deletion of the p66shc Gene

TL;DR: In a model of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) leads to telomeric shortening, expression of the senescent associated proteins p53 and p16INK4a, and apoptosis of CPCs, impairing the growth reserve of the heart, suggesting that intact CPCs can effectively counteract the impact of uncontrolled diabetes on the heart.
Journal ArticleDOI

Angiotensin II Increases Tissue Endothelin and Induces Vascular Hypertrophy

TL;DR: In this paper, the endogenous effect of endothelin-1 on angiotensin II-induced hypertrophy of small arteries in vivo has been investigated and it was shown that endothein-1 increased media thickness, media/lumen ratio, and cross-sectional area of basilar and small mesenteric arteries.
